AADC-10's

Wed Feb 03, 1999 2:57 pm

Do you know why AA doesn't paint on their DC-10's the model of the aircraft next where they paint Luxury Liner or Luxury Jet as they do on their other planes ?

Because back when the media was causing everyone to be afraid of flying on DC-10s, they removed the DC-10 lettering from the planes so that the "dumb" traveling public wouldn't see that it was a DC-10 and get scared to go on it.

Are you sure that they don't say DC-10 nowadays?

Neither have I.
MD-11 is right, they removed the "DC-10" titles following the bad reputation the DC-10 had after the 1979 crash in Chicago.
American is gonna retire 9 DC-10-10's this year as the new 777's are coming. Of course I love the 767 and the 777 but I'm not very happy to see the DC-10's being phased out, I'm sad about that. American is phasing out three aircrafts that I really like; the 727, the DC-10 and the MD-11. I know they have to retire the 727 and DC-10 but I'm sad anyway. Also they don't have to phase out the MD-11!
I think you understand now why my name in this forum is AA727. AA because that's what I usually fly, 727 just because I like her.

AA "releasing" A300s as well

It is unfortunate that American is phasing out the 727, MD11,
DC10, and A300s. Although the phasing out of the A300 makes
no sense to me whatsoever. The 727 and DC10 I can see due to
their age. The MD11 is also very puzzling as to why they are
releasing them. Maybe is just good ol' economics. BUT, the
777 is hell of a plane.
