Are Airtran X-Fares Being Cancelled?

Sun Jun 26, 2005 6:30 am

Hey everyone!

According to Airtran's website, their X-Fares program, which allows those
between 18-22 years old to fly standby for only $59 per segment (or $79 for long haul segments), must have all travel completed by December 15th, 2005. This makes me wonder, are they cancelling the program? I certainly hope not, because I'm 18 and could use those fares to travel to see friends!

They have been posting a December 15 "travel by" date every year for as long as I can remember (and I remember the X-fare program from back when I was eligible to use them, so its been a fair number of years!!!). They shut it down in mid-December for the holiday period and then start it back up in mid-January the following year.

B747-437B is correct.. That is the Blackout dates. Usually, during this time, they'll raise the price a few dollars, or add some extras to the program... I.E. Last year, you COULD NOT travel on Fridays and Sundays, but this year, you can, but it is a big gamble... Last year the price was $55.00 this year it is $59.00

I remember the days when it was $35 including all taxes and fees. I also believe (but I'm not 100% sure) that it was $25 at some point as well.

Guess that makes me an old fogie....
