Well I guess it has started.... This type of a program has been in place at America West for some time. As for Republic Airlines, this is just a start and there will be more to come.

Starting July 1, US Airways employees will be able to earn up to $100 extra each month if the company meets certain on-time performance and baggage handling goals.

CAL's been doing that for ages.

US Airways pilots are angry about a deal reached Thursday to sell 28 regional jets to Indianapolis commuter carrier Republic Airways.

Of course they're mad... they have every right to be. This means that the E170 pilots, already furloughed from mainline, are gunna lose their jobs to a bunch of RJ and Saab drivers.

Your right. HP took the idea from CO, some time ago. It has been successful. As for the other issue, I did not know that those pilots were furloughed from mainline. That does suck.

Not to mention they they will not be in the HP merger either. 15 + years for some pilots down the drain. These MidAtlantic bunch have to be one of the most unlucky pilot groups ever. US never finds a way to stop screwing them.

As for the $100 incentive, I hope it works with the ultra-militant union types in PHL.

Because they are represented by mainline ALPA, and since when does ALPA care about pilots.  mad 

On a side note, let me just say that MidAtlantic pilots are currently taking matters into their own hands..... angel

Because it is obviously more beneficial to US Airways to get rid of MidAtlantic. Besides, Chautauqua (Republic Airways) pays very comparatively to MidAtlantic.

Republic FO: $22 to $34 over 4 years
Republic CP: $55 to $94 over 17 years
MidAtlantic FO: $21 to $37 over 7 years
MidAtlantic CP: $60 to $93 over 18 years

Well sure, but US is not in control of this; the creditors are. US is in bankruptcy and that leads to extreme measures with no regard for fairness... only money counts in this game.

The MidAtlantic employees' situation is a perfect example of why employees should strive to avoid bankruptcy of their employer. Anyone at NW or CO listening out there?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I wonder if $100 was arbitrary based on what CO does or if that's actually derived from their economic impact of not running on time.

There's nothing to stick up for. If US cannot afford to own the planes, they cannot afford to own the planes.

Rationale like this is why these airlines are in a bad place as it is.

Remember, aside from a few hundred bitchy flight attendants in New York, CO employees gave pretty much exactly what CO wanted. They got four hundred something million of the $500 million they wanted.

"Air Transport World reported that Republic Airways Holdings, parent of Chautauqua Airlines, will purchase 10 Embraer 170s and assume leases on 18 others belonging to US Airways, along with other assets, for around $100 million. The carriers made the announcement last week. The aircraft will be flown in the US Airways Express codeshare network. They currently are operated by MidAtlantic Airways, a US Airways subsidiary, which will be shut down. Half of the pilot positions for the new aircraft will be allocated to furloughed US Airways crews under the existing Jets for Jobs protocol. "We are very excited about the opportunity to fly these 28 aircraft and potentially fly [Embraer] 190s," Republic’s Warren Wilkinson, v.p.-Communications said. The airplanes will be operated on the Republic Airlines certificate."

I got a question. The MidAtlantic operation seems to have been very shortlived. Did MA have their own uniforms, wings, etc, or did they just use the same ones from mainline? If they had their own, they might fetch a pretty penny on ebay.

Yep, every last MidAtlantic guy is ex-mainline. The F/O on an E170 flight I took last month made it all the way to right seat on 757s after flying DC-9s, 737s, and A320s only to be furloughed and sent to the E170. After this, he's gunna be out of a job. Poor guys.

Not so. They exhausted the US recall list for F/O's, and then MidAtlantic hired some pilots from Piedmont (perhaps some from PSA as well). The vast majority of F/O's, and all captains and F/A's, are indeed ex-mainline.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

I will say this. I work for an airline in a workgroup represented by a Union (TWU) and I will say there are many things that I despise about it. Thanks to the union agreement, we (Dispatchers) are hourly, and not salaried, and we are tracked way too carefully by a time clock. Many other aspects of the deal are things I don't agree with, and I would prefer not to get into it on the forum. It may provide job security and people who will help you out in trouble, but for the most part I think its way overblown and I think SkyWest dispatchers have it a little better out there.
