Airline Plans For Ras-Al-Khaimah (RKT), UAE

Mon Jun 27, 2005 10:38 pm

Does anyone have info on the planned launch of an airline in Ras-Al-Khaimah (RKT), U.A.E.?

I've heard several stories, but can't weave them together.

One is that MenaJet wants to relocate there, possibly under the Hamrah (Red) name, other reports mention a RAK International Airlines.

In any case, RAK as an emirate is embarking on a major plan to attract investments and that includes expanding the airport and setting up an airline.
As RAK is just an hour north of DXB and 45 minutes of SHJ, that could tap into the same market. In addition I heard that Ajman, just north of SHJ, wants to build an airport too.

Any info would be appreciated!

I wouldn't be surprised if MenaJet were relocated there since during the past year, they haven't done much out of BEY except for some charter flights for tour operators and few other services on low yield routes.

The RAK is interesting and it appears that the whole area aroung DXB is getting crowded. How will that effect EK?

I've also heard this, but I did'nt know about a new proposed name!

I've also heard that Air Arabia might be switching operations from SHJ to RKT, I highly doubt it though!

I have also heard rumours that some European charter airlines will move their Asian flights via RKT rather than flying via AUH, SHJ, BAH....!

Any news on the new Dubai airport?

As Air Arabia is owned by the emirate of Sharjah it is unlikely that they will move to a different emirate.
I heard that SHJ is getting more expensive, so it could well be some airlines will move their fuel stops to RKT.
Who owns MenaJet? I imagine a RKT flag carrier would be owned by the local sheikhs.
Also, Al Rais who currently operate two 727F want to enter the pax market.

Who owns MenaJet?

It is partly or wholly owned by Mr Mekkawi, a former MEA pilot himself.
