Evergreen Aquires Ex-LH 747 Freighters

Tue Jun 28, 2005 10:08 pm

Evergreen has bought two ex-LH Cargo 747-200SFs, apparently the last two LH operated and which were withdrawn from use at the beginning of this year.

That would be the old "Zulu Alfa" and "Zulu Charlie".
As not being that old (delivered '85 and '86) they should decrease the average age of Evergreens fleet by half from what it is today

Good choice, well maintained Aircraft and most likely already on the premises. Cuts the cost for the delivery flight.

Are these the first Evergreen 747's with GE engines?

Yes, all others are propelled by PWs. The whole current Evergreen 747 fleet is a mix of series -100 and -200 of early- to mid-70s vintage. If I´m not mistaken, no one has an older 747 fleet.

What about Kitty Hawk, or what Mr. Kalitta's outfit is called nowadays?

Kalitta Air has some 747s built in the late 70s and compared to Evergreen continously has been expanding and upgrading their fleet.

Well which ever aircraft it happens to be, they are certainly not spring chickens.

All have been used well over the years by Lufthansa. Here are the hrs/cycles for each as of April 2005.

D-ABYZ 84758hrs/15833cycles
D-ABZA 81905hrs/14371cycles
D-ABZC 81731hrs/14456cycles
From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

Are you guys sure about this? According to the official Icelandic register, Yankee Zulu is current as TF-AMF and Zulu Charlie is current as TF-AMH.

According to various sources, D-ABZC/23393 is flying as TF-AMH, but YZ/23286 although originally reported to become TF-AMF but never seen as such, now seems to go to Evergreen as N487EV (or N488EV). The second exLH for Evergreen is ZA/23287.

Seems that only one -230 is left at LH although stored, D-ABZD. What's the condition of this aircraft? Will it ever fly again?
