TWA 717 In 2002?

Wed Jun 29, 2005 10:51 am

Ok. I was searching jetphotos @ SYR and found a couple of photos of a TWA 717. The date is 2002. I find that very odd. Hadn't AA already returned or sold the now ex-TWA 717's?

here is the link. the 2 photos are @ the bottom of the page.

AA did not take up the leases on the 717 due to the high costs that TWA was playing. Most if not all are flying for Airtran as we speak.

The 717 were returned toward the end of 2002 I believe, they were gone by 2003 if memory recalls.

AA kept the 717 after the merger, and flew them until their leases expired. At that point, they did not renew the lease.

I suppose they were flying SYR-ORD then? Or was it SYR-STL?
How come I can't upload an avatar photo to my profile?

I think there were actually some of the 717s that were painted in the transitional AA colors.

Some where indeed painted, or polished, in the transitional colors. AA paint scheme with TWA in red on the tail. I saw them all the time in MKE. The TWA gate area was right across the ramp from the office.

It would be SYR-ORD, as SYR-STL ended around 1993.

The last TWA 717 flight under TWA/AA colors was STL-MSP I believe, but I cannot confirm it.

Two Ex TWA 717-231's are now with Thai Carrier Bangkok Airways:

TWA N407TW - HS-PGR
TWA N2414E - HS-PGQ

These aircraft flew for TWA from 2000 to 2001 when they served for AA for one year before being deleivered to PG!
