MSY To Drastically Reduce Landing Fees

Thu Jun 30, 2005 2:17 am

Just a few notes....

* Landing fee being dropped from $3.44 to $1.07 per 1000lbs.
* Fees will be at a 20-year low
* Airport looking to raise ticket counter and gate fees for non-signatory carriers to compensate

And now a link...

Smart move on the part of MSY. With airlines looking to cut every penny in costs they can, airports that let landing fees get out of control will find themselves in trouble.

Now that's a massive drop that is sure to attract more airline service, be it by new operators or existing airlines. Perhaps DL bringing back a glimpse of the good old days at MSY and launching a few new p2p routes, like TPA, FLL, or even JFK. And then there's always the pre-9/11 dream of the daily 763 to CDG  Wink .

Passenger counts at MSY were up 4.6 percent in May compared with the same month last year. More than 942,000 passengers traveled through the airport in May compared with 900,900 a year earlier, according to figures released by the airport today. Passenger counts were up 4.3 percent on a year-to-date basis.

With that kind of reduction I'd expect to see some increased flying from several airlines out of here what do you guys think?
