New British Airline - 'Global Spirit Airlines'

Thu Jun 30, 2005 6:16 am

When I read about this, I thought it was a joke. But, the website looks very professional, it even has a frequent flyer programme!
Its an airline based in Manchester (or looking to be based there!) Plans MAN-ISB and MAN-BKK with 50k allowance in economy!
I'm still not sure about it, what do you reckon guys?

I'm not sure, but it looks more like a charter carrier, or a carrier mainly operated by and serving mainly one specific ethnic group. In this case, people belonging to the Islamic religion.

Based on its decision to fly MAN-ISB and MAN-BKK first. Manchester, Islamabad, and Bangkok (I'm not sure) all have a huge Muslim population.

Also, calling one of it's classes, Nawab Class.

LOL, their aircraft information is a copy-paste from Airliners.net http://www.gsairlines.com/about-us/aircraft-info.htm

FREE CARRIAGE OF HUMAN REMAINS

2 seats guaranteed with every human remain booked

I like that very much, although their conditions of carriage are somewhat contradictory.

Overbooking
GlobalSpirit does not operate an overbooking policy. In case of off technical reasons there is any involuntary off loading passengers.

But it seems you could be bumped if someone is traveling with a corpse/urn:

We will guarantee a maximum of 2 passengers will depart the same flight as the deceased regardless of availability

It sounds like a smashing airline and I do like their frankness about traveling with Granny and Grandad once they've expired.

I would be astonished, though, if they ever get off the ground. If they succeed in astonishing me, I would possibly die of heart failure should they last the distance. But at least my loved ones would have 2 guaranteed seats so they can lay me to rest in Pakistan.

Now all I need to do is find 2 people prepared to love me.
I need to get laid

I suspect quite a few Pakistani's living in Northern England would like to be buried in their homeland and hence the market..?

I would use it as a way to ship cargo back and forth. Just pull up to the aircraft with a hearse and load up... Free shipping. Plus, what if it was just a way to save on a third seat and someone just traveled in a coffin as a stowaway?

I wouldn't be surprised....many people would like to be buried back in their motherland (heck, I wasn't even born in Pakistan, but that's where I want to be buried).....

Because of Islamic sharia (laws), the body must be buried ASAP after death..this would allow a couple of family members to travel with the deceased.....

hence..

if a loved one dies,

GlobalSpirit will allow for family members to purchase two tickets (guaranteed) and they will take the deceased for free (which can get to be VERY expensive)...

sounds like a good combo to me....its something I would look into if they offered it here in the USA.... yes

They also seem to be going against PK and EK...but mainly PK

The transportation of human remains is a very lucrative business for PK. Every week i see at least between 1 and 5 human remains being transported over to pakistan to be buried. So this offer will definitely appeal to those transporting human remains back to pakistan in the future, should the airline get off the ground. Best of luck to them.

Haha - having the "human remains" link prominent on your front page is a bit graphic ! "Kill one, fly one free" - euwww !

Whoever put the website together has only a vague grasp of English too - it's a bit weak. They suggest that passengers book through travel agents until their online booking engine is up and running. Good luck with that ! Travel Agents will have a hard time booking an airline that has no inventory system, no GDS connectivity and no airline code  Smile

I think this is another paper airline that won't ever leave the ground.

Think this airline has a good chance of actually getting in the air. The flights will be operated by European 747, G-BDXK I think, and carry EAF flight numbers.

The start up has been put back from July to September however. They also had plans to start services to Bangkok, one can only hope that this materialises.

No distribution, no ticketing, no sod-all = not a scheduled airline either.

If that's your logic doesn't that discount easyJet and Ryanair as scheduled carriers?

FR and U2 have very sophisticate distibution and ticketing, just not the legacy carrier kind, but they have it. These guys apparently have neither, not so far anyway, and they're a bit necessary especially if your only sales outlets are travel agents.
