Production Numbers- B73 "classics" Vs. MD 80/90?

Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:55 pm

Not including the NG's (which were really made after the MD 80/90 line closed), what were the comparative production numbers between Boeing (B737 300/400/500) and the MD 80/90 series? Other than "brand loyalty", what would be the motivating factor for an airline to purchase either brand? Was one more efficient than the other? Or maybe performance related?

Thanks- Bruce.

737 2nd generation:
300 - 1110 built
400 - 482 built
500 - 392 built

MD-80/90
MD-80 - 1193 built
MD-90 - 118 built
The basic MD-80 didn't do too bad indeed, although they peaked earlier (mid-late 1980s) then the 737 2nd generation.

nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?
