Helicopter Down In CO

Fri Jul 01, 2005 7:43 am

A medical helicopter crashed today, killing all 3 souls on board. It is an A119, N403CF. I watched this helicopter help perform another rescue earlier this date.

Yes, a very, very sad situation. I know Eric (DLKAPA) photographed that helicopter 3 times and the pilots actually called him seeking a print. You always feel bad when those who help others die doing so.

It wasn't the pilots of this particular aircraft, at least I don't think so, that called me. I think it was one of the higher-ups at the company (but which still could have been the pilots).

However there's a good chance that I've met them before  Sad

Not being said other than it crashed while approaching the victim, near Mancos. If it happened where I think it did (north of Mancos in the mountains) than wind might have been a factor.

Here are some pictures of the rescue they had just assisted on in FMN. Pictures of them are near the bottom, assisting in the rescue. The first 2 were taken about 1 hour before the crash. They left this scene and then were heading west of DRO for an injured logger, which is where the incident occured.

7 miles east of Mancos is pretty much right near the La Plata plateau. Mountains in that area are kind of rugged.

that's a sharp looking helicopter type ... I like the red color scheme

Medical helicopter crashes are rare, IMO
