Quoting AirbusA346 (Thread starter):

Those are the new type of top-secret Airbusses buried under the ground... then at some point when the germans take over the sky, a HUGE thunderstorm will start and kill all elecromagnetic devices while bolts of lightning plant pilots into those aircraft. Then they will start tearing up the ground while they emerge from underneath and fly to Seattle destroying everything at the Boeing plant with their powerful lasers until the world is left with nothing but Airbus aircraft that have LH tails on them.

I watch too many movies  sarcastic

Joking aside, perhaps cus that is some kind of LH building or headquarters. Anybody agree or disagree?

It's the entrance of the LH offices in Frankfurt, a few meters away from the airport.

They should have the tail on a track and have it move around the building from time to time with the 'Jaws' theme playing over some loudspeakers. Maybe at noon, 6 pm (1800 hrs), etc.  bigthumbsup

The tail was actually a gift from Airbus to Lufthansa back when the remaining government shares in the airline were sold and LH became a fully private airline. That was October 13th, 1997, if I remember correct.
The tail never belonged to D-AIAL.

There are plenty in the American deserts. I'm sure if you asked real nice and had a big enough check, you could get one off a scrapped jet. Maybe a 707 or a DC8 would be cool.

it's in front of the entrance to the Lufthansa base in FRA. And yeah, I am pretty sure it did not belong to that Airbus, since it has been around for quite some time now, and that A300 is still flying for LH today.

The reason for it: It is very striking. If you are ever invited to the LH base in FRA, they will tell you to take the airport road, and then turn into the gate where the LH tail is on. There's no chance of missing it.

A little further away from Terminal 1 maybe, but not from the airport. It's right on it.

Actually the LH crane is the oldest logo used by any airline.
It has been in use since 1926 with LUFT HANSA later than Lufthansa.

Listen, it is quiet obvious the reason for that tail being on the side of the road is not a gift from Airbus, but merely a tail from one of Lufthansa's A300's that fell off during flight and landed in a nice strategically well fit spot that would help promote their image in Frankfurt.  Wink

I agree. LH's tail design is one of the most professional and recognizable in the world. A big line of them is gorgeous!

trust that some LH people out there can confirm that prior to the a300 tail being put in front of the office at LH FRA on 'airportring' there was a 707 tail at the very same location

I don't work for LH but I drive Airport Ring since about 30 years or so, never seen a 707 tail at that location. There is an old 707 displayed in Berlin/Tegel and years ago they had a Super Constellation in FRA which is now in MUC.

The A300 tail is there since the end 90s and they should move it to the new location a few hundred meters west whenn the new HQ building is opened.

Yes, but that gas station (BP) is - like the Super Connie - no longer there. The only one left is the big essoStation at Unterschweinstiege and the one at the Ringelaube of course - exactly opposite of the Airbus tail.

By the way, a similar aircraft tail is in Lemwerder near Bremen at the ASL plant, former maintenance base and aircraft storage

You forgot the old DEA, now Shell Station right on the LH side, opposite of the Ringeltaube. It is still there.
