EAS Airlines

Mon Jul 04, 2005 3:08 am

I was wondering who could tell me more about Nigerian airliner EAS Airlines.
Today a B737-2 visited MST.
Due to noise restrictions this aircraft was diverted from AMS.
Every information about the history of EAS is welcome.

It came in on a charter to pickup the Nigerian soccer-team 'under 20 years'. This team played in the final for the Worldcup, which was held in the Netherlands. I think this airline (almost) never flies outside the African continent!

In the 80s and 90s they had one 707 for cargo role.
Remember to have seen it at CDG.

EAS (Executive Airline Services) Airlines is a small domestic Nigerian carrier based in Lagos. It started out as a cargo carrier and ventured into passenger services in the early 90's. They operate services to: Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Jos with a fleet of 3 737-200s (5N-BGM, 5N-BEY, 5N-BHA).

In 2003, the Nigerian aviation authorities suspended EAS's operating certificate after two fatal crashes. The worst occurred in 2002 when all 75 passengers and crew, along with more than 70 people on the ground, died when an EAS aircraft crashed on take off from Kano.

Surprisingly, this very small Nigerian domestic airline offers online booking through its website:

The Dornier 328 is operated on behalf of Cross River State (in Nigeria), flying primarily tourist assignments to Bebbi airstrip (near Obudu Cattle Ranch) and Calabar, Cross River State.
