Questions About NW347 DTW-SFO (evening Flight)

Mon Jul 04, 2005 6:32 am

On July 7th, I'll flying on board of Northwest flight 347 from DTW to SFO, as part of trip from CGN to SFO. The flight departs DTW at 7:40pm and arrives at SFO at 9:38pm.

So here are my questions about this flight:
In NWA timetable, a 757 is indicated as the aircraft type, so I'm assuming, that means it will the be -200 version. Is this correct?
Is food in coach still complementary or is one the routes with a buy on board program?
Assuming just like all the time, that runways 28R+L are in use for landing at SFO, how is the approach normally conducted?

It would be nice if someone could one more question(s) posted above. I appreciate your help!

One question I can answer for you is that the food is buy on board. Though if you have time between connections in DTW they terminal offers a slew of dining options to take advantage of.

Best thing to do is to get Subway or something and bring it on with you. With some xtra pop too..

As for SFO, unknown..

Northwest uses a lot of 757-300s on its west coast routes out of DTW. I would think that they would out to SFO.

Personally I prefer flying the 200s better, they seem to have more leg room on them, unless I am imagining things. But I flew from MCO-DTW on a 300 and had a kid jumping up and down in the seat in front of me killing my legs. I flew on a 200 on the way back and it didn't seem so bad.

Before you buy Subway check with the airline to make sure they allow outside food into their planes. AA didn't let me bring in my Wendy's at DFW so I ahd to shove it in front of the gate agent, thankfully they were stil boarding when I got done

No meals on board, unless you buy them, although they are pretty good. I do recommend you pick up something in DTW. It will be a safe, quick, and easy flight, and comfortable. The 757 200's are an awesome plane, be glad that's what you're on

I usually see the -200 series coming to SFO....

the normal approaches are one of the 28's....unless wind conditions dictate, then you will get the 19's...and on rare occasions (usually during winter) you will get the 10's..

occasionally, in the mornings..you will get the 1's...now THAT is an amazing site to see!!

expect to land on one of the 28's!

It's going to be dark when you land though, so not much to see out the window. I highly recommend you buy something in DTW before you get on that airplane for four hours. I don't think the snack boxes are that great. They are just that -- a snack. Spend a few extra dollars in that enormous McNamara terminal and bring a full meal on board.

They'll let you on with the food. I've never had a problem with that on NW.

A note about the Food service. NW will NOT offer the pretzles they normally offer. They got nixed back in June. So if you want anything other than a drink, you'll have to pay for it. I'd also go with buying something the terminal and bringing food onboard.

Most likely you will fly over Modesto then south of Oakland, make a right turn over the Bay and land on one of the 28.
It will be dark so nothing more to see than some lights, maybe another plane on approach for OAK.
Have a great flight!

If you have the time and you're hungry, just eat in DTW and forget even about trying to eat anything on the aircraft.

NW still has complimentary soft drink/juice/water service on-board.

Ok, thanks guys for all information!!!
You are a great help!

I have so far only flown the 752, so can't say anything about the -300 version, although I would like to fly on it someday.

With a full 2,5h at DTW, there should be enough time to buy some food before I board my flight to SFO, despite all the hassle with immigration.

The approach into SFO describe above, is just like I accepted. I know it will be dark by the time I'm on approach into SFO.

I'm planning to write a trip report after the voyage. There you can some ideas on how well the trip was or was not.

It's one our older 757-5500 series. It's configured F22 Y160.

even though it will be an evening arrival...try sitting on the left side of the plane....the views are much nicer....especially if you land on the 28's...

on SFO arrivals, i've sat on the right side a few times and the left side maybe 40-50 times..can't compare!!

I recently flew MSP-SFO, and I'd imagine DTW-SFO would be about the same. Read my (shameless plug of a) trip report, and you'll see pics and videos of the whole flight. Includes a 6 minute video of the approach and landing.
