KLM A330 New Delivery Dates

Tue Jul 05, 2005 1:29 am

today we received the monthly KLM magazine and this time there were 4 pages with KL's A330's Information. they also called that the A330 delivery for the first 3 won't be 30 august, end november and December but now will be 25 august, mid September , and end october...

the current status of the A330's are:

1st one is already done and i guess its doing testflights now
2nd one is also already done but not painted yet
3th one is receiving its cabin at the moment!

it also stated that KL only order 8 A330's , and not 12 as some mentioned (although the other 4 might still come)

sound like KLM can't wait to receive the A330!!!

Is this magazine free, if so where do you apply for it, KLM website?

Thanks for the update MauriceB  bigthumbsup

25th August seems to be shaping up to be a great day Big grin

Will they use the 332 on short haul routes for staff training?

Rob!

Hi MauriceB

Do you know the configuration? I hope it's not like the B777 with 2-3-2 in c-class.

The Wolkenridder magazine is a monthly magazine sent to all employees. I don't get mail on Mondays, can't wait for tomorrow

They did some nice features too in 2003 when the T7 was coming. Kid did his highschool thesis based on that material.

BTW, August 25 was always the delivery date, first flight September 1, IAD.
I wish that all skies were orange and blue!!

They will be, just like virtually any other 332-long haul airline, in a 2-2-2 for World Business Class and 2-4-2 for economy.

Will these A330s be replacing the B767s that run AMS-LHR?

nope the 777/737-900 will take over that route. We actually already saw the 777 doing that route some times...

I remember that, Lamedianaranja. I was working as a volunteer that day and had a great time on the 777!

Looking at the map, the A330 will have a 2-2-2 configuration in to World Business Class sections and a 2-4-2 configuration in two Economy sections.

Yes, the LHR route has been flown already a few times with the B777, but that was certainly not scheduled, but because of tec problems with the B767 and I also recall an occasion that a B767 was cancelled (kl1009) and therefore the next LHR flight (kl1017/usually B737-400) was operated with the B777 to get all pax across the Northsea.

As you probably know, most AMS-LHR flights operate with the 737 and only one or two, and in rare circumstances, three roundtips between AMS and LHR will fly with the 763. From the people that I speak with, its unclear whether the 777 or A332 or MD11 or all of the above will operate the widebody turns from AMS to LHR once the 763 leaves the KLM fleet......a lot depends on scheduling and aircraft availability. For the time being, the 763 will do the AMS-LHR widebody services - KL uses the widebody on this short route to move cargo (and to a lesser extent, passengers) that is connecting to/from the African flights.

My bet is that the MD11 will do the AMS-LHR widebody flights after the 763 leaves the fleet.

I just received "De Wolkenridder" and I read some interesting things about the A330....KLM will install modified WBC seats and improved economyseats in regards to the AVOD system. In the B777 it's very difficult to watch a movie on the screen in the seat in front you when that seat is (fully) reclined. I don't know what the improvements on the WBC-seats are, the article didn't mention that. These are just 2 examples of improvements compared to the B777, all because off complaints from pax about the B777....wouw...

I think the KLM 330 will be replacing route that are done with the 767. for example:Those are the route that could be replace with the A330 AMS to IAH, IAD, EWR, LHR, ATL, PRG, YVR and YUL during winter.  wave

777 versus A330 on the LHR run:
The B763 is there for the benefit of the ACC flight. If the 763 does AMS-LHR they only have to get the containers out of the aircaft onto the LHR flight (if they have to unload them at all because they regulary use the aircraft inbound from ACC for the outbound LHR flight). They do this not only with the usual LD2 containers but also with LD3 containers (if the ACC flight is operated with a MD-11). These containers are filled with ACC bound pax at LHR in order to have an effecient transfer. They used to do this also for the LOS flight but since the LOS departure ex-AMS was moved earlier they couldn't do this anymore.

The second reason is cargo, as the 767 can transport pallets and LD2 and LD3 containers which the 737s can't.

Finally, the first two flights flights to LHR is usually packed with business traffic (although most business traffic on the first) and the second departure can catch transfer pax.
