New Masterplan For EZE - Finally!

Tue Jul 05, 2005 5:11 am

Good afternoon gentlemen,

On today's La Nación edition, there was a really comprehensive article about the new Ezeiza masterplan, due to start before the end of the year. Overall I find it amazing to read that, finally, the airport will become what it should have always been - the main gateway to Argentina we Argentines can be proud of.

Main steps include:

  • During the end of 2005, Terminal B, which was opened in the late 1950s and currently is AR's hub, will be completely demolished.

  • A completely new structure will be built instead, in two floors (ground floor for arrivals and first floor for departures). This means EZE will be able to receive 3.000.000 pax more than it currently does, especially from domestic flights which will be, in most cases, diverted from AEP to EZE.

  • A new control tower is to be built, replacing the old one, located on Terminal B's roof.

  • All Aerolíneas Argentinas flights, currently operating from Terminal B, will be relocated to Terminal A, inaugurated in 1999.

  • Both Terminal A and new Terminal B will be connected one another. Currently Terminal A and old Terminal B are connnected through an outdoor passage.

  • 100 new check-in counters will be installed, all connected to CUTE System (Common Use Terminal Equipment). CUTE System will allow adjust airline counters to each airline's needs, thus eliminating the classical crowds waiting for check-in at the airport hall.

  • 18 jetways, 30 gates, 30 passport control desks, 8 security checkpoints and 10 baggage belts will be buit.

  • Parking area will be refurbished.

Once the construction is finished, Ezeiza will be able to handle 11 million passengers per year (including both domestic and internationl), 5 million more than it currently can. Everything should be ready in less than 3 years.

Some plans and pictures, from La Nación's website:

Looks great. I envy you, the Master Plan for BOG hasn't started yet. BOG needs to improve its facilities dramatically, it should take a look at the Argentinian model.. EZE looks great!

Other masterplan in the area is MVD. After finish the second part of the runway, they gonna built a new airport (1 km, 5/8 miles north from the actual terminal). It will be finish in 2010.

BOG plan is actually pretty good, it just needs to be started, but the plan itself satisfies me (if it's going to be done as shown on Aerocivil's renders)

    Way to go EZE!

    Marvelous!

Looks pretty beautiful. One more reason to visit Buenos Aires !

Thanks for this very interesting info Marcos. Hope it will be ready very soon and should this improvement open Infraero's mind to improve GRU and enhance GIG T1.

As PPVRA said, nice to see some improvements on LaTam airports.

Nice, very nice. Terminal A already looks very smart.

I also read that AEP could start receiving regional flights. Am I right? If so, both EZE and AEP will become true hubs linking domestic and international pax. Great.

Finally! An airport that matches Buenos Aires!

From the drawing, I can watch that the 2 old "diagonal" buildings will be kept? The new terminal will be located behind them? what does it work there?
And do you know if they plan to build double jetways for 380s?

Looks great indeed, it reminds me SCL a lot, just as Terminal A.

Regards, as Felipe posted, another great reason to visit Buenos Aires, another hub for LAN! (just kiddind Wink )

Thanks for the heads up Marcos!

Again, I forgot to open La Nación today.

Finally, EZE is coming along. Is going to be a great airport, and as you said, it's going to be the REAL gateway of the country to the rest of the world.

I've been reading also that the new COR buildings will be opened within the next months.

Argentina is improving in insfrastructure, let's hope it doesn't stop here.

    Cheers! wave

Wow!! great news!!! And also, Ciudad Areolineas is being built, adding to all that a mx center, better and bigger than the one right now.

    Quoting Marambio (Thread starter):

You mean diverted because of problems or diverted because sending them straight to EZE?
if so, IMO, it's not so good, as EZE is quite far from the city, and I would like an Smaller Airport like in the big cities, ie, NY(LGA), Chicago(MDW), LA(BUR), from where also int'l flights leave. It's a pain in the A*s to go to EZE for a 2 hour trip to Brasil. But instead a 4 hour trip to Rio Gallegos leaves from AEP.
Do you get my point?? We should change this National=AEP, International=EZE thing.Wil be easier for the pax.Do you agree??
    My two cents.

    Hola Mike,

can't find the thread right now, but it has come up that as part of the AA2000 master plan, EZE would be handling some percentage (was it 30%?) of what is currently being operated at AEP, and if I'm not mistaken the idea was that the "new" flights would be, as you mentioned, to the longer distance destinations. In that same thread it also came up that AEP would become regional, handling flights from Brasil and Chile.

    un abrazo

    Beto

ps: off topic, but when did K's tango 01 come back home?? I was in "el monumental" last wednesday and a couple of hours before the game I saw the T01 on final towards AEP.

I'm glad to hear about EZE's upgrading. Specially good news to hear that more domestic flights will be available. In the past I've done the EZE-AEP shuffle to catch a domestic flight after an overnight flight from MIA and I hate it. Good to see EZE becoming a real gateway to Argentina.  bigthumbsup

Let's not forget AEP is getting a very substantial improvement... it too will be looking extremely nice in it's own right!

Also, COR will have a brand new airport by the end of the year, they say IT is outstanding. And the fact that ROS has a really modern bright new airport, and that MDP is getting a major renovation that is going to make it look like new (because of the Summit of the Americas in Oct or Nov), gets forgotten too. Airports in Ushuaia, El Calafate, Bariloche, already had their renovations. Salta and Bahia Blanca will get theirs very soon.

Yes, the two old "diagonal" buildings will be kept. One is the main HQs for the Air Security Police (PSA, Policía de Seguridad Aeronáutica), while on the other one the Argentine Air Force has got a training center called CIPE (Centro de Instrucción, Perfecionamiento y Experimentación).

    Quoting AR1300 (Reply 10):

I mean diverted because sending them straight to EZE. I agree with this, because right now passengers coming from abroad have to change airports in Buenos Aires if they want to fly to other places in Argentina. Besides being time-consuming, it is also more expensive because it means getting a cab from EZE to AEP. It will be great for people in the provinces, too, who mostly choose foreign airlines when travelling abroad because it means changing planes at the same airport, and not changing airport.

As fas as I know, flight longer than about 2 hours will be sent to EZE, while the rest will leave from AEP. For the most important routes, such as BUE-COR and BUE-MDZ there will be frequencies from both airports, just like it currently happens.

Aeroparque will handle some regional flights to Brazil and Chile, apart from the Uruguay flights it also gets. If Infraero someday decides to open up CGH for international flights, I believe airlines would kill to get slots for the AEP-CGH route!

    Hola Muchachos!
It's great finally reading you discussing about EZE's new masterplan! On the one hand, I will really miss the old airport, since it brings me back (and all of you, probably) lots of memories, specially my best memories of the exitement felt before traveling somewhere far away!
However, the first remodeling of terminal A was mostly impressive! And terminal B is really needing a totally new infrastructure! In fact, last summer I had the chance of flying AR after 10 years, and the departure area was really disappointing. Once I walked up the stairs, I went straight to terminal A! Finally we will have an airport that will be closer to those which we are accustomed to see in other countries, although I used to have the illusion that AEP would close and EZE would tranform into a much more bigger hub!

I also wanted to add that although I don't post much, I ready every day (and sometimes even more) your discussions, since I have been an A.net fan for a really long time know. However, I just don't know much about the aviation industry to my opinions!. Ustedes son mis gurúes! Gracias!
Estaría muy potentoso poder llegar algún día a la torre de control de EZE, o a la rampa donde estan los aviones.

    Saludos.

Buenos Aires is one of the most cosmopolite urban centers in the world - and actually people (tourists, mainly) say the city is VERY European. Styles vary from French, italian, colonial barroque to the modern styles that rule todays landscape.  Smile.

Hope this is useful so that you can take into account before making such an ignorant comment. If you take a look at the Argentine personality it has nothing to do with the one of European.
