Plane Landing As Seen From Satellite (Google Earth)

Tue Jul 05, 2005 11:28 pm

I looked for long for such a photo but didn't find it even at the most busy airports.

Finally, I found it at home, here in Buenos Aires.

The plane is landing on rwy 31, the coordinates are

34 33' 55'' S
58 24' 17'' W

from 1000 ft it's a nice view. You can see the plane's shadow, still some feet over the grass. It's a B737.

I didn't post the pic 'cos it's copyright.

Enjoy

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

Coincidently also found one

Valkenburg Naval Air Station in the Netherlands.

A really lucky shot as only a few aircraft depart/ land there each day..

Finding it should not be a problem for folks around here..

What aircraft type is it?

Good luck!

Yeah. Looks like a DC-10 or MD-11 taking off from 4R. I think it's an M11.

Lot of traffic at CDG:

Narrowbody taking off runway 09R

+ Runway 08L: 2 narrowbodies, 1 has just taken off (Coord: 48.997700, 2.593000), 1 is ready to take off (Coord: 48.996200, 2.560900).
+ Runway 08R: an MD11 has just landed (coord: 48.994400, 2.590500)

Cheers!

P.S: How do you get the coordinates? I did it by hand {Banghead}, I didn't find a feature which gives you them automatically.

Somebody explained earlier about that FedEx M11 that overran (?) runway 4R at JFK. In 2002, was it?

Any guesses on the identity? I can see raked wingtips, which suggests a 767-400 (most likely DL).

Good point; I guess that means CO, then. I guessed DL because they operate 764s more frequently into LAX.

Quoting Timz (Reply 10):

The shadow cast on the stabilizer by the tail (also those from the trees) suggests the sun is a bit to the south-southeast. Given that the A/C is perhaps 200-300 feet up, I'd expect the shadow somwhere in the Hollywood Park complex.

It's interesting that the location marker appears to cast a shadow...

How about satellite photos of ATL? Here, you can see 3 MD-88's taking off at the same time on 8R.

and then 2 717's landing on 9R at the same time.

And here's the whole airport.

You can scroll around the screen and zoom in for a better view. Hint: some of the image tiles were taken on different days, hence the ability to see 3 aircraft departing within a couple hundred yards of each other. They weren't really that close!

Is it the view of this shot or it is actually the tail of this MD resting on the floor?

Look ad MAD, slightly north of runway 36L:

40,32,27 N
3,34,31 W

A twinjet (with its shadow underneath it) has just taken off.... COOL!

737? A320?

I thought it was hard to find those images, but you guys proved I was wrong. Maybe due to the busy skies there are today.

HighFlyer9790,

It is on the approach path to MAD. Air Nostrum (Iberia Regional operates DASH-8's, Fokker 50's and ATR 72's from and to Barajas. The runway you refer to is Torrejon (formerly US AFB). It is base now for 'Ejercito del Aire', base of F-18 (mainly) and other military planes.

It is not 3 MD-88's at the same timem because that separation would not be allowed. It is three separate images overlapped as the satellite scans the area. There was a thread on this last week, can't find it at the moment.

So, a new game is born!

Let's find planes in midair, not near airports, say, at FL 200, 300, etc. We should follow airways at cruise altitudes. Chances are good!

No es broma... he pasado horas con este nuevo juguete....
(not a joke.. I have spent hours playing with GoogleEarth...)

You can spot a gas/petrol (nafta!) refinery and flame plume west of Bahia Blanca, close to a lake...

I have also tried to find a plane cruising at FL36 or above... still searching!!!

Another one taking off!

From SFO, runway 1R, a plane is waiting form take off clearance (N37 36' 22'' W122 22' 52''), but there's another already airborne (N37 37' 27'' W122 22' 08''), near the end of the runway, its shadow is very clear (or dark? Ha ha)
