Will Somebody Please Add DEN-MCI Flights?

Wed Jul 06, 2005 12:27 am

I fly this route alot and it is becoming more and more expensive. Checking Friday 7/15 coming back 7/17 $365 is about the best I've found. I know these are busy days of the week, but midweek isn't much better. You would think that $300+ airfare on a 540 mile route would generate some interest in a profit starved industry. I would think $250 would turn a profit in light of the short distance and heavy loads.

It is the heart of summer travel period and less than two weeks in advance. $365 is a perfectly accepetable fare considering the circumstances.

I would expect high fares all summer. The demand is huge this year and obviously airlines are going to take advantage of it.

I guess what I'm getting at is when you can fly transcon for this kind of fare or less, you would think other carriers might try to cash in on a high yield route like this and lower the fares a little.

Until WN moves to DEN, this fare won't ever be much lower than this. This is similar to DFW-MEM ($352 advanced purchase) and DFW-BNA ($388 advanced purchase).

The legacies don't set prices based on stage length like WN does, they set their fares based on wheather or not there is competition from an LCC.

Fare is $291 when purchased for August 5-7. $365 for less than 2 weeks advance purchase isn't that bad.
