America West Aircraft Assignment Question

Wed Jul 06, 2005 4:08 am

I am trying to finally get on an HP 757--every time I'm scheduled on one from IAH they flight gets changed at the last minute. My question is--I've been noticing that for the last week HP 274 and HP 186 (PHX-IAH-PHX) are changed between the 757 and 733; it was a 757 yesterday and today and perhaps for the rest of the week it is sheduled as a 733; how is this scheduled? Is there any rhyme or reason to this changing schedule. I am booked next Friday (7/15) on 186 and returning on 274 on Monday (7/18). I'd hate to have my seat assignments thrown into disarray (again) because of this. Any HP dispatchers or anybody have any info?

It really depends on a lot actually. If the flight is not booked full and they need the airplane someplace else, they might subsitute it for a smaller plane....same thing with a MX issue. Scheduling is also done by loads and routing needs. If they aren't filling a 757 on a continual basis, they will downgrade it and use the plane elsehwere. When we had mainline in TUS, we rarely got a plane because it was the right size plane, it was usually more of a routing issue. It doesn't seem to be the case with most other cities, it was because our flight was so short. They usually just tagged a TUS segment on.

Appreciate that info--hopefully I'll finally get on one of these elusive birds.

Yeah I saw the regular color scheme land yesterday--we'll see if I luck up this time. No preference as to which 757--just is an annoyance when they change aircraft on you at the last minute.

Good luck, hopefully you'll get the 757. I will say that all of my HP flights have been operated by the aircraft indicated.

My last HP 757 flight into IAH was from PHX on 7/12/04, we had N908AW.

In all my years of HP flying(starting in 1994), I never managed a 757, then had 2 different ones, one from PHX-LAX on 7/12 & the other LAX-PHX on 8/12, funny how things work out.

Best of luck.

As of now--according to the Americawest.com seat mapper HP186 on 7/15 has 6 seats sold in F and 125 sold in Economy. HP274 on 7/18 has 8 seats sold in F and 98 sold in economy. Not sure how reliable that is though.

Of the 13 752s in the HP fleet, one is in SAL for a "C" check and one should be rotating through GYR for a scheduled "up grade" (ETOPS). This will probably be happening a lot until HP launches their HNL service in Dec 05. It's going to be a "hit and miss".
