Pan Am & TWA In Canada

Wed Jul 06, 2005 10:39 am

I tried doing a search, but couldn't find much about this topic. But did Pan Am and TWA ever service Canada? If so where? Thanks in advance for the info!

TWA flew STL-YYZ around 1999-2000 somewhere, DC-9-30s then ERJs. I believe they also served YVR back in the early 60s.
PanAm had services to both YUL and YYZ at some points in the 80s, YYZ possibly into 1990.

Both airlines "served" Gander in the late prop/early jet era as well of course, TWA also "served" Winnipeg with L1649s for a time...

I pulled out my dusty OAG from July 1, 1976 and found nothing. However a search of the airlines db found what appeared to be a single original PA photo, and lots of TW photos. Here's a sample of what I found:

TWA definitely served YYZ. I can clearly remember an ad from the mid- to late-90s with a TWA "employee" with cardboard signs, each with a different airport code. Why-Why-Zee was definitely one of them.

TWA served Vancouver and Toronto until the end. American Airlines kept both routes, but did eventually discontinue them.

Pan Am did serve Toronto on a ad-hoc basis, charters to Carib, etc. in the 70's , and very briefly Hamilton, ON with Pan Am Express commuter service into JFK.

TWA route IIRC started in 1995 to YYZ from STL, and was about 2 to 3 a day on old DC9. I flew the route and it arrived in the old aerogare 1. I think it had uninterrupted, year round service up until the cuts in 2003. YVR was seasonal from the get go (and I want to say it started towards the end of the 90's like 97 or 98)
