Santa Barbara Drops Fares To MIA By 50%!

Thu Jul 07, 2005 3:28 am

Santa Barbara is celebrating their first year of operations in MIA. They've launched an agressive 50% off sale on their MIA route. The offer is valid for any travel dates, but the tickets must be bought between today and july 9th.

I couldn't miss the oportunity and went this morning to Santa Barbara's main ticket office here in Caracas and bought a ticket to travel in September. I paid USD 340 return including taxes. There was a long line of people in the office trying to get tickets to MIA. I saw an old man arguing with the ticket agent because he saw the 50% offer ad and wanted the airline to pay him the difference of what he paid when he bought the ticket last week.

AA offers a fare of USD 550 on the same dates and Aeropostal is at USD 420.

Expect a trip report full of pics. It will be the first one of Santa Barbara in the database! By the way I haven't been in MIA since 1996, anything cool I should visit?

Saludos desde Caracas,
Luis

That's great fares for CCS-MIA!

Is it return or single?

Do Santa Barbara ever use the D10 to MIA, or just the 752?

How are Santa Barbara's loads to Europe and MIA?

Where else in the US do they operate to, JFK?

Can't wait for the report Luis Big grin

B742: They only use the B-757 since they are N registered and Wetleased because of cat III the DC-10's are YV registered and fly to Europe. There are some photos of DC-10's in MIA but just in for maintenance.

Santa Barbara can't fly DC10s to the US. Their 757s (I believe they only have one?) is operated by TransMerdian, and runs flights a day between Miami and Caracas, except Saturdays, when it is one flight. They launched MIA service last year, and it has been hugely successful for them. MIA is their only US destination.

Correct. N720TW is the only 757-200 that Santa Barbara operates.

Well, since it's been 10 years, you will probably notice that the skyline of both Miami and Miami Beach (and up the coast thru Sunny Isles) has grown quite a bit. In fact, we have a 90 floor building (at least I think it's 90 floors) in downtown Miami. It's where the Four Seasons hotel is.

As for anything cool you should visit... MIA of course! You might also want to drive up to FLL if you'll have a car during your visit.

Both airports are quite different compared to the way they were in 1996.

Have a great trip!

Congrats on the great fare...I hear Santa Barbara is doing great w/ that route.

As for MIA, you will see many changes from the New South Terminal being built which in my opinion has a very euro feel to it (ala CDG) and will house the 380 in a couple years. As well as the never ending construction in the North Terminal for AA and It's Partners...that is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miami has changed quite a bit! The skyline as mentioned above is quite different and if your lucky and come in to land through the coast you will see it!
The Four Seasons is a sight for the eyes...not to mention the multiple highrises around the downtown and the beach area and those being built.

As customary w/ the Miami scene (and if your into it!) plenty of Amazing restaurants, Nightclubs, Bars etc...

The beaches are nice and surprisingly kept quite clean and the waters are one of the clearest in the U.S. and most like the Caribbean waters to the South of Florida (in my opinion!)

Chamo espero que la pases super chevere en Miami!

Te esperamos..

Ciao!

Well Luis, if your last trip to Miami was in 1996, you certainly will notice the change. Currently there are more than 50 highrise building in the process of getting approval or being built in the downtown area alone. The airport has also change a lot, North Terminal, South Terminal, and for you, even Concourse A and H are new! Downtown have become a trendy place, compare to the dump it was on 96, Lincoln road and South Beach are booming also. Wishing you a good stay in Miami.

MIASkies, N62NA, Peteinmiami,

Guys thanks for the tips regarding Miami. I'm really looking forward to this trip. By the way, which Concourse does Santa Barbara use in MIA?

Roundtrip

MIA is doing great but Europe is another thing. Loads are good but yields are killing them. The DC10 is a gas guzzler and that's lowering the profits to Santa Barbara.

To my surprise, AA and VH both matched Santa Barbara's fares during the 5 day-sale. Santa Barbara reacted and lowered again the fares (dammit!!) you could get a round trip with taxes for USD 200. Now fares are back to normal in the USD 520-550 range. I'm lucky that I didn't buy the ticket before the sale, I don't think I'll ever see such a low airfare to Miami during summer again.

Saludos desde Caracas,
Luis

And have a great time in Miami, Luis. It has never been as exciting a place than it is now.

what I find interesting is that all of the new buildings on the map are all residences, no commercial buildings are being planned, acording to the map, which is understandable, as Miami is considered to be one of the worst places to start up a business or move a business.

luisde8cd, have you ever been to Ft. Lauderdale? when you go up to Miami, that is on place you should def check out, along with Hollywood, I love those places. Ft. Lauderdale beach is probably my favorite beach.
