Aircraft Orders And Options

Wed Jul 06, 2005 11:04 pm

Not sure if this is in the right forum - maybe should be in Civil Aviation but I'll go for it here - please move if you think appropriate.

When an airline orders aircraft from manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus, for confirmed orders it presumably then gets allocated a slot on the production line. Is this the same for 'options'?

Also, if an airlines buys outright (as opposed to leasing from say ILFC) what sort of deposit is required? Is one required for options?

What sort of "compensation" do manufacturers get if an airline cancels 'options'. Does it cost the airlines money?

Thanks for you info - just curious
