Qantas Sends Skywest $1m Bill

Fri Jul 08, 2005 11:32 am

I wonder what happened there? I assume it would be at BME or PER?

How come QF supplied security?

Quote:
QantasLink has sent rival regional carrier Skywest a $1 million bill for passenger security screening services at Western Australian airports carried out since March 2002.

Skywest chairman Jeff Chatfield told the Australian Stock Exchange the carrier was “surprised” by the demand.

He said the letter referred to Skywest’s “liability of charges without agreement”.

Chatfield said the company was reviewing the letter and would respond shortly.

Just to clarify- this is Skywest in Australia- not SkyWest Airlines here in the states.

It's not at all obvious from the title the OP selected.

Well I don't think there is a QF link operating in the USA or Sky west USA operate to Western Australia. Just need to read the article to work it out, So yes it was very obvious that it was about Skywest Australia

True, but is there a need to refer to the country of the airline in the heading?

Fair enough for Qantas to ask seek payment for their service.

Haha bitching about the title -- for crying out loud -- in future, if referring to XR, just state something like "Qantas sends the better Skywest $1m Bill" and be done with it. This way people won't be confused when they see Western Australian airports. And when referring to OO, just state "the worst Skywest". Easy.

Now for the first comment in this thread related to the actual topic, liability of charges without agreement would indicate to me that XR didn't have a contract with QF for the security services given by QF, so they could be up for whatever QF wants to charge. But it would seem to me, that if this amount is considered hefty, it is nothing more than a ploy by QF to hurt XR and try to force them out of key markets in WA (just to clarify for any OO'ers, WA means Western Australia not Washington), such as PER-BME.
