Good Flight Trackers That You Guys Use

Fri Jul 08, 2005 9:38 pm

I am looking for a good, free, flight tracker that you guys might know about. I am using the typical yahoo and RLMSoftware Flightview and was curious if there were any others out there that you guys recommend.

If the flight is within the U.S., I recommend using Google and typing in the airline and flight number (i.e., for United flight 17, type "UA 17"). It brings up a list of free flight trackers, and I recommend fboweb.com. It gives you good info, the map is great, and, IMO the best feature -- you can zoom the map in to literally be able to see almost exactly where the plane is flying over; it also updates automatically every minute or two.

You should ask FLAIRPORT, he knows all about flight trackers and how to get into trouble with them.

Google the flight number. Yup, it's the best. FBOWEB is the best one it links to.

Some airports have passur airportmonitor

http://www.passur.com/sites.htm

or go to the airport site and track arrivals/deparures. Logan internation in boston has a nice website tracker.

http://www.massport.com/logan/tracker.aspx

here is another one:

http://www.flytecomm.com/cgi-bin/trackflight

this website has live ATC audio feeds!

http://www.liveatc.net/feedindex.php

Hope it helps!

I use flytecomm. Pretty accurate arrivals (which is all I care about) and detailed information.

I use flytecomm and fboweb. Flytecomm has weather satelite and radar overlay. fbo web is basic but both are fairly accurate +/- 1 or 2 minutes. I think they work only with US flights.

I don't know about fboweb, but I know flytecomm can track non-US flights, and can also list arrivals in non-US airports.

I use flytecomm and Travelocity's Flight Status page. It also gives you all the information about the flight including altitude, airspeed etc along with the position on the map and the route filed.

cheers

Do any of the sites mentioned also track smaller airlines, or freight haulers?

I have noticed that flytecomm tends to have the tiny prop cargo airlines on their site.

You can start by reading this: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/non_aviation/read.main/748916

Back on topic,

Any European trackers?

I don't know of any Euro trackers, although http://flytecomm.com/cgi-bin/trackflight can track European flights. In the "Flight Identifier" field, type the ICAO code of the airline, followed by the flight number, with no spaces. To find the arrivals to a non-US and Canada airport, type the ICAO code into the "Arrival Airport" field. For US airports, only IATA codes are necessary. Probably more info than you needed, but oh well.  Smile

For Euro trackers I use http://fasttrack.flightexplorer.com/?userid=fasttrackft and it is really good.

For US trackers I use either RLM or , it zooms in to what little town the plane is over. It is very good, and it is part of fboweb but I think this is great. The zoom feature is great.

I suggest using aeroseek, it is really good!!

Until very recently there was a good tracker at cheaptickets.com (the former trip.com flight tracker) but they dropped it. I e-mailed them asking what happend to it and where I could find it, and they just sent back a smarmy promo letter about their site.

Does anyone know if this same services is linked through a different page? Among other things that I miss about it was the easy ability to track flights of even the smallest airlines. I know flightcomm does too, but I just don't like the flytecomm map.

All the 'serious' trackers do, and the main airlines' flights show up the same in all of them. Unfortunately many foreign ones dont show up becasue they get blocked by the FAA. SUpposedly because those flight codes are used by military flights..  gnasher . That's what someone who tracks flights for a hobby said.

I've been using AirNav Live Flight Tracker for about 4 years, tried all the rest, and they are by far the best ones out there. It's a Windows stand alone program (much powerful than a web tracker) with an outstanding interface and best of all very cheap...just $14.95 per month for up to 60 hours usage compared to 10 hours others give you.

Their site is at:

I use fboweb's $14.95/month tracking. It is great! Airport summaries, area tracking, visual tracking, flight alert systems, and basic tracking. It can track any civil craft that has filed an IFR flight plan. I highly reccomend it! I also use flytecomm's airport summaries. The maps also have dopplar overlay, and most self-update. It is a great tracker for business jets, cargo, passenger, and civilian traffic.

I have a quick question about flytecomm. Where my doppler photo should be, a message appears saying: "Authorization Error: You are using a firewall which blocks page referral information from our server OR The website you are using is not authorized to use this service." I have tried changing setting on my firewall, but with no luck. Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?
