Old Airport At El Paso?

Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:26 am

When did the new airport in El Paso open? I see from satellite pics that the old airport was right next door, why did they build a new one, is the old one still there?

Thanks

Are you referring to an airport previous to ELP or the new terminal at ELP?

The terminal at ELP has been in the same location for many decades now. It was just redone, however.

If the airport that you are referring to is to the Northwest of ELP, you are most likely seeing Biggs Army Airfield, and not another airport. Biggs is adjacent to Ft. Bliss and ELP.

Thank you Jfrworld, I think it is an Army Airfield.

Yep, its probably Biggs. Biggs is adjacent to ELP and just to the north/northwest of the airport. In this map you can definately see how Biggs is postioned in reference to ELP.

I'm glad I could help

Here is some information on the original El Paso Municipal Airport...

The old site is now a concrete plant. Some great history on Standard Airways, the first airline to serve El Paso in there as well.

Makes me think of.....

"Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Nighttime would find me in Rosa's cantina
Music would play and Feleena would whirl....."
