Have to admit I'm surprised to see DH in the 3 spot. Maybe that will help quiet down some of the DH bashers. (Probably not though.)

I have to agree with the Top 3 International ones. I've flown Cathay and they do provide great service. I've also heard great things about SQ's and EK's service.

Sadly, I've only flown on SouthWest so I can't make much comment on that. Glad the lil guy, Midwest, got top marks!

Good work YX!! I wish they would start MKE-SJC service so I could fly on them with a connection from BOS. Heard their service is awsome. Congrads to DH and B6 as well.

Anybody else find it interesting that of the Top 10 Domestic, none of them are legacy carriers?  stirthepot

Of course, when you carry between 60-110 million passengers a year, you are bound to piss more people off...notice that almost all of the top 10 domestic carriers (except for WN and AS) are small niche carriers...when you are smaller and more focused, you tend to do things much better than when you're trying to be everything to everyone; you are bound to tick some people off.

And btw, don't understand why EK is rated so highly...yes, they're pretty good, but better than CX? EK squeezes 7 abreast into their A332 J cabins and up to 10 abreast on their 777 Y cabins and except for their A345s, pitch in J is pretty substandard as well..

I was wondering the same thing. I have to say, for airline the size and scope of BA, they do an excellent job.

Song = Delta???? maybe.... maybe not, however i think that it is worth noting that Mother Delta's low cost carrier is doing well!

Good to see that Song is in the top 5 domestic carriers!

I'm not sure I understand Song being rated? Don't they fly as "DL"? I'm my opinion, Song should be considered as Delta for rating purposes.

To me it would be like United PS service being rated separately than UA,

Doesn't it seem odd that DH would score so high on the list? I just wonder how scientific/representative this award program is? DH is very small. They have not been remarkable in on-time, or amenities, or baggage handling. They do have very low fares.

Did someone stuff the ballot box?

Preformance related issues like ATC delays (especially on the east coast), will always happen, We try day in and day out to avoid them, but they do happen. Our way of handling these issues is what maks us what we are. We are honest. If there has been a schedule makes, like NW did 7 times to my friend, we will call all customers affected. I just did that today myself in operations before I left DTW. Amenities...HA. Hope those 1$ peanuts taste great over at NW. We truly appreciate our customers and their time, and that's why we are #3 Big grin.

GO MIDWEST!!!!!!

To: All Midwest and Skyway Airlines Employees
Date: July 11, 2005
From: T.E. Hoeksema
Subject: Great News for Midwest Airlines!

We've just received great news! Travel+Leisure magazine has named Midwest
Airlines "World's Best Domestic Airline" in its 2005 World's Best Awards
competition.

The award -- based on a survey of subscribers in the first quarter of 2005
-- recognizes cabin comfort, food, inflight service, customer service and
value. The respondents rated airlines, cities, cruise lines, hotels,
islands, car rental agencies and tour operators/safari outfitters. Midwest
and the other winners will be featured in the magazine's August issue.

Rankings for the top 10 domestic airlines include:
Midwest Airlines 75.22
JetBlue Airways 74.73
Independence Air 68.71
Song 68.66
Alaska Airlines 63.21
Hawaiian Airlines 62.30
Frontier Airlines 62.29
Southwest Airlines 61.81
Aloha Airlines 60.73
Horizon Air 60.39

This is the seventh time we've won this coveted title in the 10 years it's
been awarded, certainly an enviable record in our very competitive
industry. Even more remarkable is that an airline our size receives enough
votes to make a showing in the survey -- especially considering that most
of the magazine's readers live on the coasts, while most of our travelers
originate in the Midwest. Consistently winning this award means that the
service our employees provide is so good that it makes a lasting impression
on our customers, one that is strong enough to overcome the formidable
obstacles of size and location.

Knowing that our customers recognize and appreciate us is extremely
gratifying. And the publicity that winning an award like this generates is
an added bonus -- one we hope will result in travelers choosing to fly on
us based on the award and then becoming loyal customers due to the
excellent service they receive from our employees.

This announcement comes on the heels of other very positive achievements at
Midwest Airlines and Midwest Connect -- wide-ranging schedule and service
enhancements, record load factors, strong market share figures in Milwaukee
and Kansas City, yesterday's launch of new service to Houston Hobby, and
recognition by Corporate Report Wisconsin as "Best Airline for Business
Travel." Truly, your hard work and commitment to our valued customers made
these achievements possible.

Surveys like this are not worth the paper they're printed on. Magazine surveys, much like A.Net opinions, are far more often based on perception than actual experience.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

World's top, is a bit of an exageration don't you think? US's top is more like it.

While I haven't flown DH myself, my partner has several times on business from GSP. He's been very impressed with inflight service, especially. Even on our flight to IAD, there's full beverage service, a snack basked with an actual choice of things to choose, and warn towelettes, plus a mint handed out at the end of the flight. I think their "amenities" beat the pants off legacy carriers!
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

Shouldn't Alaska and Horizon be under the same heading?
#5 and #10

Seems to me like they're one in the same.

I think his point was that it was only US carriers that made it into the "World's" Top Ten Domestic category. Did they survey domestic airlines in any other country I wonder?

Ahhh, DH, I wish they were #1 because there is nothing I like more than contorting my body into a hellishly small CRJ. crowded  I personally think that these rankings are biased.

Customer service on the majors is still extremely good. I just flew on UA yesterday. Missed my connect in DEN due to a weather delay in IAD and then flew to and slept in ORD. When I mentioned this to the FAs on the DEN-ORD segment, they gave me 2 blankets and 2 pillows, 6 packs of trail mix, and 3 diet pepsis as "camping supplies". I was absolutely stunned.

Best over-night in O'hare I have ever had.

P.S. NOTHING beats economy plus.

Anyway, congrats to the winners.
