afternoon London, United Kingdom
London Heathrow (LHR)
Arrive: 6:20pm
evening Chicago, IL

Total duration: 26hr 0min

My question is this: Will my bags transfer all the way through to ATQ? Or will I have to re-check them in at DEL? I have never transfered there before. I don't want to accidently leave my bags back at DEL. Also, once I arrive @ DEL, what is the procedure i must go through in order to transfer? Will I go through customs there or at ATQ? Thanks for your input, and please notify me of any other nuances I must go through at DEL or ATQ on the return trip as well.

You can theoretically tag your bags through to ATQ since the DEL-ATQ flight operates within customs bond, but good luck trying to get UA to accept that since all their systems insist that you must collect your luggage at first point of entry. On the return however, your bags can be checked through from ATQ all the way to Chicago.

6 hrs 15 min at DEL. Atleast clearing customs and Immigration in DEL will help pass the time! No idea abt ATQ, but some of these smaller stations like HYD and BLR are chaotic to say the least regarding international arrivals/departures (bith these places things will change only after the new airports come up), so it may be actually better to clear customs/immigration at BOM/DEL.

I envy you! You will travel on the rustbucket!  Wink

as Sean said: the flight departs from the international terminal. Normally, if you travel domestic, they would put a big "D" on your boarding pass. I doubt that UA will give you the boarding pass for AI, so you might have to collect it. It will be endorsed with a "T" (Transfer). When you present this in ATQ, you will have to proceed the way international pax have to do (Customs etc..)

If I were you, insist that UA calls the AI representative at the airport to check if he acts as Sean said.. it should work!

Good luck! Btw, is the ticket a UA or LH ticket? (probably UA, as you are not taking AI all the way to ORD on the way back)..

and: no excuse for no trip report, especially for the Rustbucket!  Wink
