2 Charter 727s @ PHL

Fri Jul 15, 2005 4:12 am

Shortly after noontime today, while leaving to the office from PHL; I saw not one but two 727s parked at the FBO/Atlantic Aviation apron along Enterprise Ave. One was the Miami Heat plane (N727NK) w/out the Miami Heat titles,

the other was N410BN that the Chicago Bulls would use.

Since the Phillies are playing the Marlins tonight through Sunday at Citizen's bank Park, I'm assuming that the Marlins came on at least one or both of these planes.

Not sure whether these 2 planes will stay here through Sunday. They might be used for other team charters between now and then.

Nonetheless, it was a nice sight to see.

The 1st time (and only time) I saw N410BN at PHL, I went crazy trying to get a photo. I did finally get it. The Marlins use the Heat plane.
N410BN, is someone else's charter.

I wonder why the Heat plane lost the "Miami Heat" titles a few years back (...and its not because the NBA season is over, there's a photo of it during an NBA season without the titles)...this aircraft used to be configured in a specially designed interior for the Heat basketball players, and wouldn't have been able to hold a full baseball team in that interior layout, so it's obviously undergone an interior refit at some point to accomodate the Marlins...any clues?

Between the raindrops, I did a drive-by yesterday afternoon around 3:15 PM. Both 727s were still parked where they were last Friday. My guess is that N410BN was also used as a charter flight for the Florida Marlins along w/N727NK.

Well, assuming the Marlins came on one of them, why would they use the second one at all? It arrived from Europe, which means it wasn't doing baseball related work, and thus it'd only be taking the Marlins out of Philly in cooperation with the other 727... 2 727's for a baseball team is probably not cost-effective (especially for a team like the Marlins, whom Im pretty sure aren't exactly financially stable) and its kind of overkill, transport-wise...especially since it seems like they only came up on 1 727 from FLL, having 2 makes little to no sense to me...I think this is just some sort of coincidence probably...

There was some NASCAR traffic between PHL-MHT on Charter aircraft. Not sure whether these planes were part of that, though. Most of the charter flights were (obviously) between Charlotte & Greensboro and Manchester, NH. But I do recall seeing one charter between MHT and PHL Friday/Saturday timeframe. I'm assuming it was NASCAR-related, but maybe not. We got a PACE Airways 757 from Greensboro, which was a rare visitor for us up here.

I drove by the area again Monday evening. Both 727s were long gone. Side note: I did see the Focus Air 747 parked nearby, but that's another story for another thread. Does anybody know when each 727 left?

The only other logical reason I could see for having those 2 727s there at nearly the same time might be this: is it possible that N410BN may have been dispatched to PHL as a 'spare' plane to transport the Marlins to PHX (they did have a game against the Diamondbacks that Monday evening) in case N727NK had some MX issues that we may not be aware of?

Who knows?
