I think for those of you who haven't used MCI
that much, this may seem a like a big deal. It's great that they've used the extra money leftover from the recent renovation to install bathrooms inside the secured area. It'll be nice to not have to leave the secured area in order to use the facilities.
Truth is - security lines at MCI
are usually so short (5 minutes or less, usually), that it's not such a big deal to hang out outside
of the secure area to eat, drink, be merry, use the bathroom, etc. and then head into the secured area about 30 minutes before your flight. As stated before, most security checkpoints are for about 6 gates (an unscientific-off-the-top-of-my-head-average) or less.
Yes, there are peak times where security waits are a bit longer, but they seem to be rather rare. As someone who has used the airport hundreds of times over the past 10 years, I can tell you that overall, MCI
is a fantastic airport...easiest to arrive in, depart from, arrive to, etc. It's a clean, modern, and properly sized operation for a city of this size.
Re: hubs: WN
does use MCI
as "hub" (as it uses so many other cities as "hubs"), and I imagine that people transferring from one aircraft to another will appreciate the "secure" bathrooms. YX
also calls MCI
