AZ In DTW

Sun Jul 17, 2005 10:20 pm

In another thread about DTW, it was stated that AZ used to fly regular passenger service (Not Charter) to Detroit using both DC-8-62 and B747's. I don't remember AZ being in Detroit other than the Cargo services they flew here to bring the Cadillac Allante bodies to the Motor City.

Can any of our Alitalia experts confirm that they had pax service here?

Please prove me wrong so I can learn something today and apologize to DTW9!

thanks...

It was just cargo that they flew in to DTW, I remember the plane being parked over by the Smith terminal between flights.

Yes AZ did have regular service into DTW. Not exactly sure of the exact time but I think it was in the early to mid 1970s. I never saw the DC-8-62s but saw the 747s quite often.

I really do not think they ever served DTW as a scheduled carrier or flights. See this web site as no mention of them at all.

I checked that too, and didn't see them.

Are you sure these weren't charters?

Also there was a tour operator that did charters to Italy from DTW during the Summer months, I can not recall there name right now, they might and this is a slight might, have chartered AZ at one time. I remember them operating from the late 80's until the 90's when the tour operator I worked for them took them over, well took the flights over.

DTWClipper I haven't given up yet finding the info on AZ flights to DTW. I remember going out to the airport at dinner time just to see the 74's when they started flying them in. They parked in front of the American Airlines cargo building along with BA's flight from London before the days of the Berry. Used to go up on the top level of the old parking stuctures and get a clear view of both aircraft. customs at the time was under concorse A,and they used buses to transfer the passengers.always used to be a charter or two there also. Then when they ran the allante bodies for GM they parked in almost the same place to unload. But I assure you the flight numbers were 674 and 675,some things just never leave your brain and for me this is one of them. In fact in May 73 I arrived on an Overseas National flight from London and we parked next to the AZ

AZ did serve DTW as well as PHL. I believe it was in the early 80's.
