Is it a good airport? I am flying through it this summer.

The terminal facilites are nice and new, but connecting there can be a real pain in the @ss ,especially if you are flying Alitalia.

What airlines are you travelling with?

Malpensa is a nice airport except for the fact that it is so far away from the city. Also, flights out of Malpensa are divided into two terminals. It can be a big hassle trying to go between them. If you are flying Alitalia in and out of Milan, then you shouldn't have a problem.

DIA77 is correct: All Alitalia flights operate out of Terminal 1 which is the newer of the two terminals at MXP. As long as you're not coming from the city of Milan transferring at MXP can be a nice experience actually. The airport was having some problems with baggage transferring and getting flights out on time when it re-opened in 1998, but by now all those are pretty much fixed.

If you are coming from outside Europe (including UK, Ireland, Iceland,Norway),, you will clear immigration before boarding your flight to Athens.

AZ has three MXP-ATH flights, two operated by MD82/83 and one by A321.

In terminal T1, on the arrivals level, have some gelati at Pasticceria Il Salotto. My favorite is the lemon. Yummy!

I was supposed to fly from SKG (Thessaloniki-Makedonia Intl Airport) to JFK via Malpensa last summer, but it ended up that I switched to Swissair in the last moment.
A travel agent that was handling a lot of passengers traveling with Alitalia from Greece to USA told me that in most of the cases the passengers ended up in JFK without their luggage. So he advised me that it would be wise if I checked twice my luggage (both in the departing airport and the connecting one (Malpensa) ) so to make sure that I will travel along with my suitcases
If anybody has more info on this issue he can correct me if I am wrong
