Its great news, but remember before you book that the DXB flights go from LHR, and Havana flights go from Gatwick!

I thought the whole point of DXB was transit; and that O/D was just extra revenue on top?

From ABTN

VIRGIN ATLANTIC Airways has confirmed Monday 27 March 2006, as the start up date for its new Heathrow – Dubai service. The direct flights will initially operate four days a week, increasing to five days a week from 1 May and daily from 1 June. Flights will be by an Airbus A340 and will bring added competition to a route already served by British Airways, Emirates and Royal Brunei. 2006 looks like being another busy year for VS with Montego Bay (Jamaica) already announced for July

No - Dubai is a big and ever growing holiday destination for the British. In addition, much of the luxury new property developments are also being bought up predominantly by the British, producing what will be a very lucrative high-end/premium second home market to cater for.

Finally plenty of Britons work in Dubai/UAE in well paid, tax-free, management level jobs.

DXB is certainly a major transit hub - something EK has built up to good effect, but to say that is the only reason for DXB's growth is very far off the mark.
