DFW Opens International Terminal D On July 23rd

Terminal Creates New Standard for Passenger Amenities and Security

DFW International Airport is set to unveil the world's largest post 9/11 airport expansion on July 23, with the debut of the 2 million-square-foot International Terminal D.

All international flight operations will be relocated to the new Terminal D. Currently, international flights use terminals A, B and E. International carriers at DFW Airport include Aeromexico, Air Canada Jazz, American Airlines, American Eagle, British Airways, Grupo Taca, Korean Air, Lufthansa and Mexicana Airlines, flying to 38 international destinations. The terminal opens as DFW is setting an all-time record of more than 5.6 million international passengers in 2005.

The terminal project was hailed as the largest construction project in the state of Texas, and completion of International Terminal D literally required a cast of thousands.

As a side note, AA will NOT move into terminal D in July 23. AA has delayed its move into terminal D indefinately. Issues with the baggage system are still the main reason.

Aa777flyer is incorrect. The delay on opening the terminal was due in large part to AA's demands on working out the kinks in the baggage system. Expect to see them in there on the 23rd.
See you up front!

AA Flifo still reflects international arrivals/departures through Terminal A for the weekend and through next week at least.

I have heard/read in the last week or so (not certain of the source, but think was FW Star-Telegram) that AA's transition would be gradual over a 4-6 week period.

Perhaps things have changed in the last week, however.

Great, I will call the VP of AA at DFW and let him know its time to start packing.....It would be news to him that AA is moving on the 23rd.

AA will not be moving into D anytime soon. There are more kinks than just the baggage system. The sprinkler heads are too low, when somebody drove a tug and carts underneath the terminal they broke them off. The jetbridges were not fully carpeted. The contractors didn't fully extend the jetbridges when they put carpet in them, so now they are only half carpeted. Most of the consessions are not done yet, and they still have to hire and train people. The list go's on and on.

I do think that BA and LH, KE will start using it on the 23rd, Their area of the terminal is smaller than AA's, so it was easier to get the kinks worked out quicker.

I know it has been discussed and widely rumored but no definitive date has been given as to when American will start operations at DFW Terminal D.

My understanding is logistical problems with baggage and some areas are not quite done.

It opens tomorrow and it looks like for all the international carriers except AA. Also I know there will be domestic in there as well. Is it all Domestic widebody airplanes as well as premium AA destinations (MIA, ORD, LAX, LGA) or just widebody flights.

Also I would be interested to know what this means for operations in Terminal A, which currently handles AA International OPS.

I am going to get a chance to check out the new terminal next weekend, can't wait.

This is what I have heard re: the terminals at DFW.

No one knows for sure when AA will move to Terminal D, but it should be some time in August (probably late August).

Once AA moves, all its international flights (including Eagle, I understand) will move to Terminal D. AA will spread out its other operations in Terminals A and C. This should allow some relief of the congestion that plauges the AA operation at DFW even during minor delays (e.g. waiting for gates).

Eventually, unless DFW can somehow convince WN to move into Terminal E (yeah, right), HP, TZ, F9, US, UA, and Midwest will be encouraged to move their operations to Terminal E. Those moves, combined with BA, KE, LH, and AC moving to Terminal D, will allow AAEagle to take over all of Terminal B. Eagle will then be able to abandon its Satellite Terminal operation in Terminal A, and allow Eagle pax to board all flights directly from terminal gates.

No one knows the time frame for this, though.

Somebody said a Mexicana flight would land first at the new terminal D. I'd love to be on that flight...probably get your ass kissed by all the DFW folks.

Hopefully the Brits, Germans, Koreans, and anyone else on the other int'l carriers will be impressed by the new facility when the widebodies arrive from LGW/FRA/ICN.

Just heard on DFW newschannel (CBS 11) that it will be MEXICANA AIRLINES from ZACATECAS, MX arriving around 7AM, followed by 747 KE. I heard from some airline employees at DFW, that first flight out of TERMINAL D, will be AC to YYZ, leaving at 6:30AM, a CRJ. (THERE SUPPOSE TO MOVE THERE OVERNIGHT FLIGHT FROM YYZ TO TERMINAL D, when it arrrives tonight @ DFW)

Do any of you know if there will be some inauguration festivities? Back on June 25th there was something going on, but I was traveling and couldn't attend. Being tomorrow Day 1, I assume they will have some event going on. Please confirm so i can get up early and attend.

Thanks!

Actually the first departure will be Champion to CUN leaving around 5:45am or so...this is accoriding to DFW and Champion Air.

Sun Country, Champion and Aeromexico all made the move over late this evening (Friday) from Terminal E.

Hopefully, they will tell their friends at CDG and AMS so that their national carriers will come too.

I'm sure the new Terminal D will leave foreign visitors more pleasant memories than Terminal B.
