Air Europa To Join SkyTeam

Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:12 am

Sorry if this has been discussed before but the search engine is not working for me.

Accordint to Airline Ninety Two ,which is a spanish commercial aviation magazine, Air Europa is to join SkyTeam at the end of 2005.

I have been hoping for a while that Air Europa would join SkyTeam since they had such close ties with KLM/Air France and Continental.

Apparently Copa, Tarom, and Kenya Airways are also to join SkyTeam.

They are becoming associate members of skyTeam, not full members like DL, AZ, etc.

They aren't joining Skyteam, but just a partner-ship....

the next airline to enter skyteam is Aeroflot...

Its not that wierd. Magazines are frequently wrong with airline information. To them, Air Europea becoming a skyTeam associate means joining skyTeam. They wouldn't know the difference.

Now we're talking about alliances... I was always wondering why SAA, Emirates, SN Brussels, Turkish and any Chinese airlines are not in an alliance. Most of them have damn good networks.
Next flight: AMS - TLV - AMS

SAA, will become part of Star Alliance, at the beginning of 2006.

UX also has a codeshare agreement with AM. AM codeshares on UX's CUN-MAD flights. There is potential for additional codeshares (UX could codeshare on AM's MEX-MAD, MTY-MAD and key domestic routes, while AM could codeshare on UX's main domestic and intra-UE routes). Who will be sponsoring UX's association? AF?
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

UX's associate membership is being sponsored by AF which means that UX's FF program will be Flying Blue (just like OS and LO both use LH's Miles and More).
KQ will be sponsored by KL, RO by AZ, while COPA will have CO as its sugar daddy...

Associate carriers need to offer lounge access, mileage earning ability, and enter into some codeshare agreements...

I don't really think that UX have now the standards for becoming a Skyteam member or associate. I flew some weeks ago BCN-MAD and they were selling the food, and beverages just as a low cost airline. I wouldn't like a Skyteam member to be as miserable as that.

SAA and China Southern are in the ways of joining star and Sky respectively.

Perhaps a Houston route will be in the making? If CO can't fly it due to their fleet virtually never landing, perhaps Air Europa could tap into IAH?

I hope MH joins soon! They would probably be the best airline in SkyTeam once they join. I think China Southern is closer to joining than MH is at this point.
