DL Set To Add Two More ATL Destinations

Wed Jul 20, 2005 4:32 pm

After adding AZO (Sep. 9) and BZN (Dec. 16) to the 200 plus list of destinations served from ATL. DL is set to add two more destinations from their ATL Worldport. The cities can't be revealed until they are announced this week or next, but one will begin Nov. 19 with daily 738 service and the other will begin Dec. 08 with thrice weekly service on a 738.

Also DL will be adding a new market out of SLC effective Dec. 01 with a 764.  Wink
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Taking my stabs Big grin :

Quoting DeltaMIA (Thread starter):

This could be anything, but how about the long awaited link to SDQ?

Quoting DeltaMIA (Thread starter):

Sounds pretty much like Caribbean (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday), guessing BGI on this one.

Quoting DeltaMIA (Thread starter):

Aloha-he, to Kona o-he  .

Most likely next week, as DL is set to announce their Q2 results tomorrow  scared , and they usually don't announce new routes within the same week.

Hmmm. Salt Lake City with a 767-400.
It could pretty much ONLY be Hawaii.

I was thinking that it would make more sense to serve Kona from Los Angeles, thereby picking up SLC AND West Coast traffic.

Although I think that SLC-CDG or SLC-LGW are long overdue, those would be 767-300ER flights and would require government approval.

DL applied for ATL-Antigua, but that is only supposed to be 2x weekly and start on December 18th.

SLC-CDG would be much easier to do as there is US/France openskies. I, too, have felt that is long overdue. However, I seriously doubt that DL would start that route in the dea of winter. So my prediction is for Hawaii. Unless there is a chance they would do SLC-SJU to cash in on cruise traffic.

Sure as hell not with a plane as large as the 764. A 757 would be the biggest, but since SJU isn't even served from CVG, a SLC-SJU link is not even worth discussing.

Delta won't be starting Euro flights out of SLC for the foreseeable future. SLC-LGW is not in the books at all, and a SLC-CDG is trailing others in priority, namely BOS and MSY. These two (along with CDG-MSY-DFW) were to start prior to 9/11, but the French had a problem with it. And while CDG-MSY-DFW is likely out of question for DL, SLC's chances haven't really increased. Demand for travel from the Northwest is pretty low, hence you don't see AF at either SEA or PDX. DL would have a hard time filling such a flight at reasonable fares, so they'll leave their hands off of it.

The US and France have Open Skies. What problems could they have?

As for my guesses, even before I saw DAL767400ER's post, I was going to say Santo Domingo and Bridgetown. We already know about Kona.

Ask the French Big grin . Actually ConcordeBoy should know the details about it, but IIRC, some people in Paris had a problem with their own pride AF getting competition on two new routes, and managed to keep DL from getting any landing/take-off slots at CDG.

I wasn't aware that CDG was slot controlled.

Pre-9/11, the new CDG routes I remember being rumored were BOS-CDG and FLL-CDG.

There was, but that service ended several years ago.

No directly slots in the sense of restricted airports, but rather the rights to use the runways. After all, whether or not an airport is slot-restricted, you have to be allowed to land there  Wink .

Actually, as mentioned in another thread/post, I think the Nov daily 738 service is ATL-PUJ.

Also SXM will become daily in November. BZE will become daily for November. Along with several other Carribbean upgrades (equipment and frequencies).

The thrice weekly service will be Monday, Thursday, Saturday but good guess.

JFK-STI will become a 76S sometime around December 01.

Let me guess, the cargo loads on this route are already good and will be even better in the winter.

Nice to see DL help freezing Americans escape the wrath of winter Big grin . I take it then that STT will go twice-daily 757 and AUA daily 76S (plus Sa-only 757) again? Btw, any info on the rumor of BOG being upgraded to a 767?

What about expansion into California, DL already has a wicked impressive operation there from ATL, 39 daily flights with 20 of them being widebodies.

Perhaps PSP?

Or even more bold, what about some Asian expansion?

They already fly ATL-PSP. They really don't have any new markets to open between Atlanta and California. They serve all the ones that are substainable.

Quoting BOSPMV (Reply 18):

They only have eight 777s to fly to Asia. Three are already dedicated to ATL-NRT.

No 767's outside of two days in August right now. The 757 is Saturday down and Sunday back.

I keep hearing it, but nothing is official yet. DL has a sub fleet of 757's going to BOG presently.

Yes. Both SDQ and STI will be 76S from 01DEC-31JAN.

Considering DL already has such a wicked operation to Cali, there is no need to add anything more. The only larger metropolis' that DL doesn't serve there from ATL are FAT and BFL, and I strongly doubt that the demand would be there even for DL's smallest capable type (738).

Quoting BOSPMV (Reply 18):

No way, considering:
-Past experience
-Lack of aircraft
-Lack of money to overcome the lack of aircraft
-Good alternatives provided by Skyteam partners NW, CO and KE.

While I sure would love to see DL add new destinations in Europe, I'd say that route is highly unlikely. If at all, that flight would be from JFK.

Same as above, however adding that TLV is well-served thanks to CO and primarily El Al.

DeltaMIA, thanks for the infos.
