AA Change Of Equipment

Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:09 am

Had booked a flight a few weeks ago BOS-MIA and noticed an equipment change.

AA 1535 on a 757 on Sep 9 is now AA 903 on an A300-600.

When I checked the "Available Seats" on the AA website, there are tons. Like maybe 10% of the plane is full.

Anybody with the inside at AA know why they increased the capacity?

It is nothing more than fleet scheduling. During September and October, AA runs a reduced schedule so planes can go into heavy maintence, and there are lots of equipment changes made.

Got it, thanks MAH4546.

I have mixed feelings of "upgrading" to the A300 with it's much maligned reputation here, though of probably 30 A300 flights in the past 2 years, I've only had 2 mx related delays.

Always prefer a widebody when I can get it!  Smile

I know the A300 gets a lot of crap, but when you really think about it, it's one of the few unique aircraft still flying in the US. It's a quirky plane with lovers and haters. I happen to love it because it's different, and because it has so much room.

It sounds like you ride the A300 often, but to those that don't, you should fly it if you ever get the chance.

So does this mean I have any chance on getting a 777 for MIA-MAD in August?

I have always wondered how many planes AA might have out of service at any random point in time during the slow season due to heavy maintenance. Anyone have info on this?

Actually, the schedule isn't adjusted to provide aircraft for heavy mx during the fall and winter. The schedule is pulled down because of less demand which in turn leaves unassigned aircraft that mx uses to fund different mx and conversion lines.
