QF/AA LAX Ops Question

Thu Jul 21, 2005 12:20 pm

It has been stated on here many times that Qantas' US routes account for nearly one third of their profits, and also that a near majority of QF passengers continue on to AA flights to points beyond.

From LAX, do the majority of these passengers continue on to ORD/DFW and then on to smaller cities, or do they mainly connect to other major US cities on both coasts (thinking SFO, SEA, DEN, ORD, MIA, JFK, IAD, BOS)?

From my experience, most pax that are ex. OZ, are heading to major cities in the US and for the most part, I would suggest that they would be on the QF/AA codeshares.

I guess it depends on the city they are going to and what fare they are on.

Most fares are transfer restrictive, meaning to get to RDU you must transfer through ORD or if transfering through to MSY it must be through DFW.

On the other hand some fares allow you to connect which ever way you want. However DFW and ORD are two very big hubs to transfer for a large number of destinations.

FLY777UAL, are you doing some corporate espionage?  Wink

QF has several codeshares on AA services ex-LAX. However, QF isn't going to pay for the benefit of codesharing with AA unless it had the traffic to direct onto those particular AA services. So, if you can find out what AA flights carry a QF codeshare, then you will have your answer...

You can find the QF timetable here.
