Aircraft With The Most Lights On It.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:06 am

I saw a DC-9 this morning that had so many lights on it that it looked like a moving light bulb. Its funny though, for such a small airplane to have so many lights on it. Which aircraft have the most lights on it and why so many? I know the main lights are beacon, Nav, taxi, landing and strobes but there are more on some aircraft.

Some DC9's have white lights that oscillate ("wobble") on the wingtips. Most have oscillating beacons rather than strobes or revolving beacons. Then there's red/green nav lights and loads of landing lights.

Quoting AsstChiefMark (Reply 2):
loads of landing lights.

Yes, in addition to the wingtip lights, the have 2 lights at the front landing gear, and two more, one each at the root of each wing (on the -1x model, moved on later models to the side of the fuselage). The wing inspection lights (2 per fuselage side) also light up, and there are two more facing backwards, at the trailing edge of the wingtip.

In terms of actual light bulbs? I'd say a 747...in terms of lights in general, I'd say an MD-80...just from my observations though.
