AA New B/C Product Unveils Next Week

Sat Jul 23, 2005 1:04 pm

AA is slated to announce a new B/C seat that will be featured in both the 767-300 and the 777 as well as some cabin configuration changes for the -300 and a new B/C IFE product. The B/C seat will be a lie flat seat and will be installed in both airplanes, and so will the new IFE system. Also the entire 777 fleet will be standarized in F/C with Flagship Suites. The first completely redone 767-300 should start its test period sometime in spring.

Though the word has been out on the new business class seat at AA for some time now, I had no idea PTVs would be coming to J class on the 767 or that the IFE would be upgraded on the 777. IF that is true, the IFE system would certainly have to be updated in F, and it seems like it would then make sense to standardize and have the new system in Y as well. Would this also bring PTVs to Y on the 767?

The whole question of updated/new IFE seems questionable. That is a large outlay in addition to the new seats. Does anyone have more info on this? It would be great news if AA thinks they can pull it off.

Another question: Is Contour the manufacturer of the new business seat? I know they produced the Flagship Suite.

The IFE product that will be installed in B/C consists of digital file servers which eliminate the need to load and rewind tapes to run the entertainment cicle and removable IFE devices that stores in the B/C seatbacks. As it was announced, it will only go into B/C not F/C nor M/C . I dont know who the maker of the B/C seat is. And as I said before, certain cabin layout changes will occur to standarize the 49 classic 767-300 with the 9 "new interior" 767-300's. No word yet on weather this will include new O/H bins for the classic 49 767's.
