Sharm-El-Shiekh Bombing - Extra Flights?

Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:36 am

After the tragic bombings that took place in Sharm-El-Shiekh, Egypt last night that killed over 80 people including many tourists and locals.

I was wondering as this area of Egypt is a major tourist centre with thousands of Europeans visting this area every year if tour operators were intending to lay on additional flights to fly people home.

On the news where they interviewed many Brits lots were saying they wanted to get home and leave the carnage.

Hi,

As far as I know; MyTravel are the only company to have sent an extra flight to bring home their guests should they wish to return.

They have sent an A330-200 out from LGW this afternoon as MYT005P. It is scheduled to return at 23:15 but understandably is delayed by 2 hours, most likely due to increased security and organising and transporting those who want to return.

The aircraft is routing LGW-SSH-LGW-MAN.

There is more information on MyTravel.com

They said on the radio that German travel giant TUI also sends extra planes down there. The first flight is expected to land at MUC & FRA tonight.

JAT has announced that an aircraft is on stand-by for deployment sometime tonight or tomorrow morning apparently, to bring back some of the 500+ Serbian tourists currently in Sharm el Sheikh, who want to come back home.

CSA sent a 737-400 for those Czech tourists who want to return home early; there's psychologist and doctor onboard. According to Mr. Tvrdik, the CEO of Czech Airlines this flight should be available to anyone who wants to return, not just CSA's pax. The plane left around noon local time and should be back around midnight with around 100 Czech and some Slovak tourists, including those injured.
More flights will follow upon demand.
