AA Adds Flights To Jamaica,Chile,Uruguay,C. Rica

Sun Jul 24, 2005 5:01 am

American Airlines will be increasing service this fall on five routes to the Caribbean and Latin America.

In clear response to both Spirit's entry into the market and Air Jamaica's difficulities, American Airlines will add a third daily flights between Miami and Kingston on 30 October 2005. It will operate year-round. Previously, American operated a third daily flights only during July, August, and winter break. It will operate with a 757.

Also in the same response, American Airlines will add a fourth daily flight to Montego Bay on 15 December 2005. It will operate with a 737-800. In addition, the morning MIA-MBJ flight will be upgraded from a 757 to an A300.

In response to Delta's additional three weekly Atlanta-Santiago services, American will add three flights a week between Miami and Santiago effective 15 December 2005 through 3 April 2005 (Delta's additional flights are 17 December through 2 March). The service will operate MIA-SCL ThSaSu and SCL-MIA on MoFrSa with 767-300ER.

For the peak winter period, American Airlines will increase service to Guanacaste Liberia. Operating MoThSa during the summer months, service on FrSu will be added on 30 October 2005, and it will then go to daily on 15 December 2005. I've also been told that three weekly seasonal flights from Dallas might be added this winter, though nothing is confirmed on that. It makes sense, though.

American Airlines will also add two extra flights a week (SaSu) between Dallas and San Jose 17 December through 1 April, and resume daily seasonal Los Angeles-San Jose service between 15 December and 1 April. However, seasonal service between New York City/JFK and San Jose has been discontineud.

Also, due to the enourmours success of American's non-stop flights between Miami and Montevideo last summer, American will move foward the start-date of their Miami-Montevideo non-stop service from 15 December 2005 to 30 October 2005. The flights are scheduled to run through 31 March 2005 as of now, but will likely be operating year-round. MIA-MVD operates MoWeFr/MVD-MIA operates TuThSa. The other four days a week flights operate via Buenos Aires.

AA isn't really that tight on 767-300ER capacity. None the less, European flying is reduced pretty heavily in the winter. ORD-FCO, ORD-GLA, reduced DFW-LGW, etc.

MIA-VLN is on indefinite hold. The Venezuelan government isn't very privy on letting US airlines expand service to the country, as witnessed by American Eagle's failed SJU-PMV attempt, because Venezuela is Category II. Until then, it now looks like AA is going to work on getting back to Baranquilla, which the new US-Colombia air treaty that goes into affect in January will likely make possible.

Does anyone have a copy of the new U.S.-Columbia bilateral coming into effect in January, or at least know the major provisions of it? How much does it liberalize the market? Thanks in advance.

Any news about MIA-ASU? I assume AA will keep the current flight MIA-GRU-ASU, especially now that RG will drop ASU from its network!

I don't, but, from what I read in a Colombian newspaper, it will allows US and Colombian carriers equal access. Currently, Colombian carriers have an advantage, Avianca in particular.

There probably is, but AA rather route everyone through MIA.

No news yet, AA is still planning MIA-ASU, but no dates have been set. This may actually be one of the first routes flown by their new winglet 757s.

Any plans for ORDSJO or ORDLIR??? United will have a weekly ORDLIR, but frequency is still TBD.

I´ve fallen in love with Costa Rica and want to return in the winter... once I get my ZED benefits on AA, I will be using them to the Caribbean & LatAm.

No, not in the near future. AA doesn't fly O'Hare-Central/South America routes.

So, if I understand, AA and DL will have 10x frequencies to SCL?

Right, I meant in SCL-MIA and SCL-ATL, so they will have 10 each... that's a lot of traffic...

CLO is still a 757 in the schedules.

MIA-CLO/MDE will probably get the same extra frequencies they are getting during the summer for December/January.
