Which Airline Does This Tail Belong To?

Sun Jul 24, 2005 8:08 am

Hi all

In this link http://microvoltradio.com/images/bfijune.jpg taken on 19 July 05, from left to right there is a Shandong, Shenzhen, AirTran, Ethiopian, mystery tail and then an Air China.

Can anyone tell me who the mystery red tail (rudder) belongs to please? Should be line 1758 or 1759.

Cheers,

No it's definitely not SWA as there's no orange or blue on it.

I've been doing some digging and looking at which airlines have got 737's on order and of those that have got red tails I've concluded it's not :

Qantas
Shanghai
Turkish
Spicejet
JAL
Lauda

Now if I had to money on it, I'd say no, but it might be another for Flyglobespan - the tail design with all the white letter "g"s on it maybe ?

Doesn't Air Algerie and Royal Air Moroc have red on their tails too?

No, it isn't Southwest. I'm 100% certain of that. Besides, 219 was delivered out on 11 July and 220 was still sat at Renton (in full colours) on 20 July so it can't be.

Here is a pic of a Southwest in primer and I'm sure you'll agree, the rudder's look totally different. http://microvoltradio.com/images/boeing267.jpg

RAM : http://www.airliners.net/open.file/883529/L/ (not that either - same reasons).

I don't know if it's a Southwest...
http://microvoltradio.com/images/boeing267.jpg

Maybe this one is without winglets, but I found several Southwesters with winglets on that site...
Also that "white" thing in the middle of the fin disturbs me...
But indeed the closest is a Southwest after some "research"!

Smile Sadly not Southwest for the reasons stated in reply 5 and also another factor too, which you mention yourself - there are no winglets and all Southwest's new build 737's have them!

So, we're no closer to identifying it ?

It's not Qantas, because all of their B738's have winglets.

The same goes for Lauda Air and red doesn't go all the way up the tail of Lauda Aircaft.

Not SpiceJet as they have oval shapes heading all the way to edge of tail:

Possibly Turkish Airlines, but i think you'd still see a bit of white on the tail.

Possibly Shanghai Airlines but wouldn't you still see that line of white?:

And finally, JAL. There is still a little Silver curve at the bottom:

I beleive that these details are all added at the same time fo painting but i could be wrong. So, if it is not them then who the hell has bought it?

yes, but again, they have winglets!
and you would defenitly see the grey stripe...
I think it is a 736, and If you compare it to Globespan's G's it quite matches but still they miss more white...

correction,
defenitly NOT a 736, the tail looks in proportion...

Yep, that's definitely PrivatAir. Now comes the next question. Why is the Virgin Blue 737 in the second picture painted blue? (never mind the name, as most of the DJ aircraft are red)

Finally! ok so only enlarged the white squares become obvious! On the small picture it looked like the rudder of the Peruvian Air Force, but still the stripe would be narrower.

..yes the Virgin Blue is a BEAUTY! Virgin Atlantic should paint a widebody in that scheme, just lovely. Virgin Atlantic Blue  Wink

No, I don't think it is. The red looks to dark for it to be flyglobespan.

And there is a big G at the rudder which goes almost to the end of the tail. Surely that white would show up in that photo

777DadandJr,

That is one of the RAAF 737 Wedgetail AWACS aircraft. I have no clue how many were ordered, but just a few weeks ago, there were two, possibly three on BFI.

On a side not, is on of Japan's 767 AWACS at BFI?

I am aware of that.

What I meant was that it may have been brought to BFI from Goodrich at PAE to do additional work, maybe by Boeing.

It was just speculation seeing that it looked like it may have been the same aircraft and the timeing would seem to fit.

Well, there's a new BFI overview pic on the link now and it's clear as day that it's a Privatair aircraft, but like others have said, why no winglets.

I've looked up new allocations on the official Swiss register but there's still only HB-IIO/Q/R which are old hat.

N686SW is still officially registered on the FAA register so it seems not be that either.

It's still a mystery. I've haven't seen any mention of a new build aircraft for Privatair anywhere either ...

Rik,

That's what had me thinking too. At first I thought it was the -600 (C-GPWS?) but then I realised that C-FMWJ (-700) isn't due to delivery until 27th so that's the one in the picture, especially as it has winglets.

I don't think that WJA's -600's will be wingletted.  confused

I think that their first -600 will be using BOE371 for tests and if this is true then I'd expect to find it at BFI in the next few days as it's been noted calling on the airwaves for a good week or so now for radio and selcal checks.

Meanwhile, I'm still after further details on that Privatair ...  confused

Found out the rego is HB-JJA but it's not yet listed on the official Swiss numbers board.

Here's a few pics. Is it a -600? It looks pretty short to me   .

Due credit to Matt Cawby. You might have to click each link a good few times before the pic displays - I don't know why this is. It took me 6 refreshes before the first one displayed.

If anyone knows cn/line I'd be grateful.

I don't think any of the others have got them, only the -700's and -800's (+ BBJ's)

Yes, Westjet has partnered with Aviation Partners, they will not be a factory option.

The Privatair is a 737-7AK, line number 1758.

Where will they get them fitted? After delivery or before?

Do I deduce from this that the -600 has different shape wings to the -700 and -800's meaning that the winglets that are used on the the latter two aren't compatible with the -600 ?
