All Planes Ordered To Stop At BUR Right Now!

Mon Jul 25, 2005 9:47 am

At burbank right now there is a plane on the runway being held and nothing is being allowed to come in or take off. There is a WN plane on the runway and others that are taxiing have returned to the gate. There are Helicopters in the area that are surrounding BUR. Does anyone know what is going on?

There is reportedly a security issue nobody is being allowed into the airport or out of the airport. No planes are also allowed to take off or land either. There are pilots irate as they have boarded people and cannot get them off. They dont have enough fuel to sit there and they cannot go anywhere.

Actually, they do. During an indefinite delay (for whatever reason), they'd crank up the APU for A/C and shutdown the engines. APUs burn far less fuel than running engines...

Sounds like a security breach necessitating that they "dump" the terminal of folks and re-screen everyone. Ditto for the aircraft off the gate.

A real mess guaranteed to make everything run a couple of hours late...  Sad

Nothing on the local tv news websites yet, nor on the FAA or Burbank Airport pages. Will keep looking

Texan I know I havent found anything either but OPNLguy it is so hot here you would not even begin to believe it. There was a WN pilot that said he had to pull out of the gate as he does not have enough fuel. They are now letting aircraft come in but nothing is leaving.

They are still allowing arrivals. SWA461 and SWA607 touched down within the last couple of minutes. There are 3 more inbounds due within the next 15 minutes.

Also FAA has not issued and advisories or ground stops for Burbank traffic.

I see they just allowed a United Express/Skywest CRJ to depart for SFO.

Must be back to normal.

Yes that was the only plane that has left. Now all trafic is being ordered to take off to the west. There is still no report as to what is wrong. That was the only plane allowed to depart. It is a major debacle there.

www.flightarrivals.com look at all the schedualed departures that didnt leave.

Not a security breach (as in someone getting past the screeners), but something else. Runway 15-33 is closed, they're landing on 8 and departing on 26 (which is a real mess ATC-wise). Runway 26 is shorter than 15 and has lower takeoff weights, so some flights may be too heavy and have to either get down to a low enough weight for 26 or wait until 15 re-opens.

I'm sure the media will have something posted shortly with more details...

That CRJ-700 was quite full, too. That just shows you how versitile those birds are.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought that it meant that ALL airplanes must make a stop in BUR before continuing anywhere else! Big grin

that's crazy..... I don't think we went much over 100.. It might have been hotter in Chicago today than in Phoenix.. Who'd have thought that possible in July?

Bomb Threat Disrupts Flight From Burbank
From Associated Press

A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Phoenix from Burbank was forced to turn around and land back at Bob Hope Airport after a possible bomb threat today, forcing the airport to be closed for an hour, authorities said.

Southwest Flight 117 left for Phoenix with 120 passengers at about 4:40 p.m. when a call came from the Phoenix area saying there was a bomb on the plane, police Sgt. Armen Dermenjian said.

Passengers were evacuated as police searched the plane but found nothing, Southwest spokeswoman Beth Harbin said.

The runway where the plane landed remained closed for several hours, and Southwest brought in another plane to take passengers to Phoenix.

They let an Alaska 73G take-off out of 26. There must have not been many people aboard. A second WN737 was ahead of the alaska flight and they didn't takeoff, they must have been full.
