Query About Earning FF Miles On Partner Airlines

Tue Jul 26, 2005 9:44 pm

Firstly, how do they get transferred? I had a connecting flight on a single ticket and one was credited, the other wasn't. Another pair weren't credited at all, despite the BA number being on the ticket.

Secondly, why do they ask ME for certain details (like fare code basis) when surely they'd get better information (and hard evidence) from the airline themselves? If they spend 10 minutes writing me a letter, why not a 2 minute phone call to the airline concerned instead?

I've had this twice now - once with Emirates, the other with LAN [Chile and Peru]. Both were 4 flights each to be awarded to my BA account. The former took 7 months for BA to grudgingly award the 25% mileage.

I am not sure how they're transferred, but as a QF frequent flyer, my miles for a QF sector were missed back in April. After that, they were credited without my status bonus points. Both times I had a response and correction within 48 hours from QF.

You need to ensure that your FF number is on the ticket (usually it's on the boarding pass) with the airline your flying. No matter who I am flying (within OneWorld and QF partner airlines), my boarding pass always has QF####### written on it.

Also, with certain airlines in certain fare classes, I earn no points. For my Aer Lingus deeply discounted (€10!) fares to London, I had the flights show up on my report, but they weren't credited any points because my fare class wasn't permitted. However, I knew this from the Terms & Conditions of the programme, and by checking what class I was in on Aer Lingus when I got my booking confirmation.

I think if you familiarise yourself with the nitty gritty of the terms and conditions of your frequent flyer programme, ensure your number goes into the system when booking, and then show your card with your ID at check-in, and check your boarding pass, you should be okay.

That said, it should never be 7 months to get a reply. That's just sad! Surely there is a web interface to get your missing points? That's what QF have when you log into the Frequent Flyer section...

I do enjoy a spot of flying, especially when it's not in economy!

The LAN tickets and boarding passes did indeed have my BA number on them. Card was shown but declined as they already had the number.

Tell me about it. Both Emirates and LAN require boarding passes faxed to BA (even that wasn't enough though). Despite this, several letters, written proof from Emirates on nice shiny letterheaded paper, and numerous phone calls later, it still took them 7 months to credit me. For some partner airlines you can just fill in an online form.

It seems QF are better organised than BA! I have a CO account as well - never any problems and far more value for my miles.

i thought BA had stopped their partnership with Emriates? Ie you used to be able to earn BA miles on EK, but it stopped about a year ago?

Yes, you're right. However the flight was 2 years ago - well before they ended the partnership.
