Emergency At Aqaba Airport, Jordan

Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:10 am

I just heard on the local radio station that there was an apparent incident at Aqaba Airport with a passenger plane overshooting the runway on landing and overturning?

Anyone have any further info? If indeed true, hope everyone is OK!

From the sky news website:

PLANE CRASH NEAR ISRAEL

A Jordanian passenger plane has crashed in Jordan near the Israeli border.

The plane crashed at Aqaba, Jordan's Red Sea airport, according to the Israeli rescue service.

The service said there were reports of casualties and Jordanian emergency vehicles were rushing to the scene.

Aqaba is within view of the Israeli resort town of Eilat.

Apparently it's not a crash after all:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/...7/26/mideast.crash.reut/index.html

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -- A Jordanian plane suffered a tire puncture upon landing at an airport in southern Jordan on Tuesday, an Israeli rescue service said revising an earlier report that the plane had crashed.

"This was not a crash. The plane's tire burst and the ruckus appeared like a crash," a spokesman for ZAKA told Reuters when asked about the incident near Aqaba, on Jordan's border with Israel.

The Israeli resuce service said Jordanian emergency vehicles were at the scene.

Israel's Channel 10 TV said the plane had overturned upon landing at the airport.

KC135, your humorous comments are too close to the truth of news around the world. But thank God/Allah, apparently no one was injured or killed in this incident.

I agree, that no one was hurt or killed is the most important part.
