Pilot Penetrates No-Fly Before Shuttle Launch

Sat Jul 30, 2005 1:22 am

In a report released by U.S. Air Force officials, CNN has reported that a pilot of a small Piper Cub penetrated the 40-mile no-fly zone around the space shuttle Discovery only three minutes before its launch.

Even more so, the pilot fled the scene of his aircraft after USAF F-16's forced him to divert 50 miles north of the area. Once officials reached the airport, the pilot's aircraft was on the ground but the pilot was no where to be found.

Side note: is it just me, or does this seem to be happening a lot these days? Hmm. Cheers!  Big grin

Correction to the above...it seems as though the plane did not just penetrate the no-fly zone, but came within 20 miles of the shuttle itself, 3 minutes before its launch.
