MX FAT-GDL-MEX Looks Like April 2006 Start

Sat Jul 30, 2005 4:38 am

FAT has put out a press release with details about Mexicana. It looks like the Customs/Ag Inspection startion construction will probably start in August or September, with flights starting in April 2006.

This means Mexicana has finally signed a Letter of Agreement with Fresno, the airport had been waiting for this for a few months.

According to the press release the schedule will be 5 weekly flights (I wonder if they will start lower initially) on A318s. Mexicana's research indicates they sell 140,000 tickets in the region already for flights leaving from other airports in California.

FAT is currently seeing a 5% increase in traffic in 2005 after reaching its highest passenger counts in 2004. Mexicana service alone will probably lead to a 2006 increase of 10%-15% over 2005.

Mexicana and Aeromexico flying to the Central California Valley has been discussed extensively over the last couple weeks.

Might make more sense to add onto one of these existing threads which have talked about Mexicana at FAT instead of starting yet another one.
