would definitely have made many ignorant peolpe who had never heard of Slovenia a little bit wiser, I doubt very much that U2
's two flights per day would increase tourism by 28%!
Much of Eastern Europe is going through a tourism boom since joining the EU. Drunk yobs no longer automatically choose AMS
for their stag do, but now look further afield to an over-whelmed PRG
and a soon to be inundated KRK
, VNO and TLL
. Whilst Croatia and, to a lesser extent, Slovenia have avoided the masses of drunk chavs, like a hoard of locusts they are on their way looking for cheap booze.
The Balkans are now getting much more attention in the media. Croatia in particular has done a hell of a job in promoting the Adriatic coast and attracting the more elegant and well-mannered tourist despite no EU admission (yet). This, combined with newly acquired EU membership is almost certainly the most dominany impetus in boosting tourist numbers. That's not to say that U2
haven't contributed to the impending decline of LJU
as it battles British and German undesirables soon after it got rid of the Serbs, but I personally wouldn't credit them with a significant increase.
