Domestic Widebodies On AA

Mon Aug 01, 2005 6:49 am

Does AA operate widebodies hub to hub? I am looking for DEN to MIA and being that I always fly UA thought I could definitely find a widebody on the DFW-MIA leg. Well so far I haven't found anything like that, it is far different for the 777 I am always on flying out of DEN to another UA hub. Now I know that I can fly UA thru ORD and take the 777 but I would like to try something new and since I am moving to the MIA area want to see if AA is going to be my new airline.....

Yes on some positioning flights.

You can get a 777 DFW-MIA as AA flt 1614 and 905 and MIA-DFW as 908 and 1945 .

In terms of flying between "hubs" proper, AA operates:

1x daily DFW-ORD with the 777, connecting to/from Europe flights at ORD

2x daily DFW-MIA with the 777, connection to/from Caribbean/Central America, and South America at MIA

In terms of other domestic hub and focus city widebody flying, AA operates:

1x daily LAX-ORD with the 763, connecting to/from Europe flights at ORD

1x daily SFO-ORD with the 763, connecting to/from Europe flights at ORD

12x daily LAX-JFK with the 762

5x daily SFO-JFK with the 767 (2x 762, 3x 763)

1x daily SFO-DFW with the 763

3x daily LAX-DFW with the 763

2x daily LAX-MIA with the 763, connecting to/from South America at MIA

1x daily SFO-MIA with the 763, connecting to/from South America at MIA

Did I miss any?

There are also 763s on MIA-LAX, ORD-LAX, DFW-LAX, ORD-SFO, and of course 762's on JFK-LAX and JFK-MIA occasionally. Airbus flights JFK-MIA, and BOS-MIA. SJU and Hawaii get widebodies also. There are also 777 flights ORD-DFW (DFW-ORD-LHR).

Don't forget San Juan is an AA hub and domestic.

SJU-LAX and SJU-JFK have 763s; flights from SJU to MCO, MIA, BDL, JFK, and BOS also have A300s.

Yea AA widebodies are a joy to fly on some longer flights.

I'm going to be flying a 762 on AA between MIA-JFK soon. Looks like AA is using 762 and AB6 between MIA-JFK to accommodate their transfer passengers on this route.

Bet I'll be doing it sooner than you! I'm on AA flight 1378 MIA-JFK 767-223 tomorrow morning!  Smile

Seriously, though, if it's your first time on that flight, I think you'll enjoy it very much. Leaves at a good time of day, rarely delayed and the old 767 is still much preferred than the 757s you get into LGA and EWR (though I'll be flying back home to MIA later in the week on AA flight 1999 EWR-MIA which is a 757 - though hopefully with an upgrade to F).

I saw an AA 762 on final to LGA today (7-31-05) between 4p-5p..It was most likely an equipment sub from DFW or MIA..It reminded me of the good ole days when LGA had several DC-10's and 762's flying daily to DFW and ORD..

Are you sure it was a 762? Reason being, the only 762 into MIA is from JFK, and it just turns around and heads back to JFK. And DFW doesn't get any 762s.

Maybe a 763? That sounds more plausible.

There was an AA 767-200 at LGA today. It ferried over from JFK as AA 9679 and then did LGA-MIA as AA 953 and did the turn back to LGA as AA 986. After arriving back at LGA, it ferried back to JFK as AA 9600.

You could choose DL and be on widebodies on all the flights. MIA/FLL are riddled with them and DEN has some as well.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

DL has loads of widebodies in their domestic network. ATL-MCO/FLL/TPA/MIA/PBI all have 767's. ATL-LAX/PHX/DFW also have widebodies.

If you read closely, Commavia separated his post into a list of actual hub-to-hub flying (on which there are few widebody flights) and a much longer list of hub to "focus" cities. He never claimed that SFO is a hub for AA.

Regarding DL 767 service... you might have missed a couple of cities. Here's what I found with a quick look (I may have missed some too):

ATL to ANC, BOS, CVG, DFW, FLL, RSW, JAX, LAS, LAX, MIA, MSY, LGA, JFK, HNL, ONT, MCO, PHX, PDX, SLC, SAN, SFO, SEA, TPA, PBI

CVG to ATL, LAX, JFK, HNL, SLC

SLC to ATL, ANC, CVG, LAX, JFK, HNL

I believe that it is only a 1x daily 777 flight between MIA and DFW.

With AA changing up what aircrat will fly into each city, how many wide-body routes will be changing? I know here in BOS we will be losing the 300s going down to both MIA and SJU come the end of october.

Interesting (and nice - too bad I missed it!).

Do you know the reason why they did this?, (Approximate numbers) the 762 has 159 Y + 9 F (the biz class is always sold as Y on the 762 NYC to MIA routes) and the 757 has 160 Y + 22 F.

Seems like both planes are relatively similarly matched in total capacity (notwithstanding the deficit of F seats on the 762) and since 762s rarely fly to LGA, would seem like they would have sent a 757 instead.

Well, just curious, anyway!
