Alpha1 Update

Tue Aug 02, 2005 8:28 am

For anyone following the fate of Alpha1 (remember them?) who's plan was to start scheduled service between Oxford and Cambridge in southern England (roughly 65 miles); their website has been recently updated.

News Update: August 1st 2005

With new investment now in place and our aircraft ready to be delivered we will shortly be releasing details of our new flight schedule with services set to begin in September. Our new aircraft is now undergoing some routine maintenance and is having some modifications made to its flight deck before entering service.

A new advanced online booking engine has been installed and new destinations finalised. We anticipate making details on the new schedule public in mid August. Once again, thank you for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you onboard soon!

The alphaOne Team

Does anyone know where the new financing came from? Any ideas which plane will be used (still AirMed?) or will it be (as some people discussed ) a JetStream J31 (ex BA?)

Have they filed for their own AOC or will it be done on a branded wet-lease / ACMI a la Euromanx ?

(One other point - what is the requirement for small pax planes to have 2 pilots vs. 1. I only ask because I flew from Connemara to Aran Islands the other day in a single pilot plane (BN Islander) with 8 other pax.)
