Possibly an equipment change due to problems with the airplane that was originally scheduled?

It is one of the peak travel weeks in Europe with just about everyone on vacation and lots of people travelling........my guess, and its only a guess, is that the 744 operated a FRA-LHR-FRA turn for capacity reasons, simply to move a lot of passengers between the two cities and to accomodate lots of pax connecting to other flights at FRA.

Quoting Daumueller (Reply 4):

In these types of circumstances, one of two options are used, depending on loads.

1. The F cabin is simply not used for the segment - and C and Y pax will be seated accordingly. Depending on the loads and seating, its common to see some operational upgrades.

2. If all of the seats are required, the F cabin would be used for some business class pax (usually elite FFs and/or full business fare pax being assigned the F seats), with the balance of the pax going to their assigned classes.....again, depending on the loads and aircraft and the seating configuration, another situation were operational upgrades may be done. Again, depending on the loads and the aircraft, one of the Business Class Cabins may be filled with Y pax....in that case, although some Y pax lucked out with comfortable biz class seats, the inflight service in that cabin will be to Y class standard.

In general, situations like this usually work out better and easier than one would expect, if the equipment sub is planned, seats will be reallocated well before departure time and the agents at check-in will simply advise pax that there seat assignments have been changed due to an equipment sub. Even if its a last minute sub, the biggest chore is getting the pax lined up to re-issue lots of boarding cards.

Any idea what might be the loads on the 744 they used.

I am assuming it would have been full in Y on both segments.

Hey Ben,

maybe they cancelled a couple of flights and merged them (as they did with me from LHR two weeks ago) - causing lots of inconveniences for people on earlier flights (missing connex etc).

Cheers

wonder if they made the one hour turn-around at LHR, plane coming in 13h10 and sched dep is 14h10.

I doubt that they join two or threee flights since there is a relativley large gap between other departures on that service. That would make more sense on the evening rush hour ex LHR to FRA. .

Any equipment changes planned for LHR tomorrow? (4th)

Was it the replacement for the AB6?

I assume there area limited number of gates at T2 that the 747-430 could use, or wuld LH have had the aircraft parked at a remote stand?
